If this happens, I would certainly cheer for Martinez even though he literally has no chance barring a freak injury to GGG or something.

I don't know who Martinez is. I looked up internet, it says he is 47 years old...

Golovkin wanted to fight him like a century ago.

Right now there's no incentive for GGG to face Martinez at all. If he does it will be a massacre ... Martinez isn't just over the hill, he's in the coal mine at the base of the hill and taking an elevator down to level 12.

The idea that this is even a plausible situation is nothing short of mind boggling.

I honestly hope it doesn't happen.

Same, or if so that GGG either comes in dragging his feet & barely willing and treats it like a light spar (and thus opens the door to a crazy upset) or makes the blitz KO mercifully quick.

By the way Rummy - just a heads up, Sergio was ranked #3 as of last week, but insanely, he's now bumped up to number two as of the WBA's new monthly rankings published over the weekend. I'm sure fixing that is probably a huge pain in the ass but thought maybe you'd want to know since it says right in the video thumbnail (and the change already happened before the upload).

I voted for GGG win by stoppage, but the voting system is in serious error, as the top choice should be for GGG win by Death KO. Seriously, by death. Maravilla thinking he's still got it. Wow. SMDH.

Sergio's legs were gone years ago through playing football ( the real football) I cannot believe this would be sanctioned

Ggg is only interested in freakshow events now and useless fights. He was doing everything he could to fight Safety First opponents to get that third Canelo fight. He destroyed his legacy like that.

    Again...

While the above from Sheikh is maybe a valid criticism of some of GGG's opponent choices during the latter part of his career (mainly just Wade, Rolls and Szeremeta, over a six year span...and I reject wholeheartedly the assertion that Derevyahchenko and Murata can be called "safety first" or unworthy foes) - this specifically is something that Maravilla has publicly stated he wants, and the callout has yet to be answered. GGG has never commented on facing him since before his initial retirement almost 9 years ago.

If this does come off, it'll be due to it being ordered by the WBA since their wonkadoodle rankings have left that door ajar, not because of Golovkin cherry-picking Martínez for a voluntary defense.
