Do you not think being 37 has something to do with it

He'll be even worse in his next fight.
He took a lot of punishment in this fight, grueling 12 rounds.

GGG better select his next opponent carefully.

If GGG rematches Derevyanchenko and has a third fight with Canelo, he loses at least one of those fights.

Lets not write him off too quickly. People were quick to say Pac was shot too after Horn but the old dog still had some magic left in him, maybe GGG is the same.

Of course being 37 has something to do with it. So does having about one million amateur fights (exaggeration I know) and living in a gym for decades.

Takes a toll on the body.

Yes. Having life left in you and doing long term damage to your self are two different things.

It's a truism in boxing that fighters tend to hang around too long. That's when a lot of the damage happens.

Think Ali, Frazier, RJJ, Toney, Adamek, ... the list could go on and on. Guys hang around because it's hard to come to terms with age and decline. Plus in some cases it's the only way they know how to make money.

The smartest guys do their thing and get out.

Crazy how as soon as GGG started facing real competition he hasn't looked nearly as good

To be fair Jacob's himself said he wanted the Golovkin fight after showing signs of vulnerability against Brook.
Golovkin was so good in his prime he didn't lose rounds.
Didn't hear what his illness was but every time I hear the word Flu I have to laugh.Australia's best batsman last month during a game had flu for a day lol.Maybe some folk have a different take on it but Influenza is a killer.
I've no doubt a third Canelo fight would be at some catch weight.

Well he's a tad older, but IMO not shot. Was he shot like the Rahman who crawled out of a homeless shelter to fight Wlad Klitschko? No, this GGG is older and slower, but can still mix it up at top level.

Its delusional to think age doesnt matter in boxing. All fighters have a shelf life.

With the EE fighters, we tend to see guys with a whole lot of amateur fights before they get to the pros.

    Age. It's a thing.

I dont know how old you are but when you reach you later thirties you will probably feel it.

Competing at the too echelons of boxing even small amounts of decline matter. A small loss of reflexes means the difference between avoiding a shot and taking a shot. Between moving your feet to get a better angle and just having to make do with the position you are in.

    Is that not obvious?
