GGG is not at his physical peak anymore, that much is obvious. What is also obvious is that he is still world level. He is still a prime fighter, he's just on the other side of his peak. How long he has, who knows, sometimes the descend is faster than the ascend, but so far he still has shown zero reasons to believe he is a shot fighter.
Yep, the thing with these Eastern Block boxers is they come over in their late 20's to early 30's and spent most of their best fighting years in the ams. Golovkin would have been a real monster at around 20'ish and now he is just shell of himself, sadly. Doing his best and it's good enough, i guess. Age is undefeated and GGG is showing his age in each fight and the fact that he has a lot of tough fights in his 30's has something to do with it. Specially against free range clenebuterbull eating ginger.
I agree that GGG has significantly declined but even now he is one of the top middleweights in the world.
i dissagree he is slow as **** but his chin hasn't cracked and when he did land in chenko he hurt him that being said canelo is the best match up for G
Hopkins wouldn't have gotten far in his 40's either as VADA would have been in place at the time. Plus a spoiling style goes a long way when older. He's not shot, as he can obviously still beat top5 opponents at 160, but he's clearly past it.
How many MW champs have you witnessed in your sojourn as a boxing fan get called out like this LOL?! I remember speaking to a few who went to see Haglar vs Duran they all came away saying he was shot. How did Duran a LW take him the distance. I remember watching Hop vs Calzaghe....man, father time caught up..then he schooled Pavlik, avenged a draw with a 29 year old Pascal, snatched Tavaris' 0' & his IBF strap. I think given a certain style, 3G will make some say, oh he turned the clock back, just like Pac on Thurman. On the other side of prime, but still got gas in the tank...depending on the terrain...
GGG can beat most of the top 5 guys .....but look at the rankings.....who the hell are these guys?? Kamil Szeremeta? Liam Williams? Alantex Fox, luke keeler?? What the hell does it matter. GGG is a shell, a weathered husk of the man that destroyed David Lemieux. And that absolutely fine because that's what happens at 37. They need to keep him on the bench, nice and safe and just wait for Clenelo to steal this decision from Kovalev. Get GGG one more nice payday before he calls it a day. Though it'll be sad and sick to watch Clenelo carve him like a thanksgiving turkey.
