Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin vs. Vanes Norikovich Martirosyan

Vanes is a good fighter, but there isn't any one thing he does especially well, not all that quick or powerful, not great at avoiding punches, not a huge weight-cutter, does not glide around the ring. Just a good, solid contender. With the two-year layoff I give him a 25% chance against a guy who is way past his prime. How do I know? They wouldn't put him in with somebody better.

He will probably get stripped of a belt for ducking Derevyanchenko.

 

There was a paper titlist in him, for sure, but an awkward night's work is all he could be expected to give an authentic championship operator in their prime. Capable, yet deficient beyond a certain level.

Vanes is better than Spike, but, considering the layoff, I might call it a sideways step. Neither fight is really very appetizing.

Yes, and being Armenian they think he is going to bring busloads of fans down from Yerevan West (Glendale, Ca.) to the fight. It's all chess, they know that if GGG fights in front of a half-empty arena, DLH will want to give him less money in Sept.

You are correct in my case, I figured with him being a 154 fighter and inactive, as well as having faith in Golovkin's ability I voted by knockout.
Are there fights of his I should watch to get a better idea of how the fight should go?

Easy win for GGG. The best thing you can say about his opponent is he’s never been stopped. So the show won’t end early giving the fans their monies worth.

Yeah, he turned it down, citing the short notice. Gomez said Spike wants to give himself the best possible chance of winning when he faces GGG or Canelo, and he seems assured of getting a shot at one of them down the line. Did also suggest that more money would have tempted him into the ring, though.


Vanes is durable enough, but I feel that Golovkin absolutely should stop him, especially this version, coming in on short notice after two years out of competitive action.
