If Vanes were active he could give GGG a good fight, but a two year layoff and having GGG as your comeback opponent has bad idea written all over it.

This fight is not official at all. In the press conference they said there is still no opponent

Even if if were true that Vanes takes a better punch than Canelo (and I certainly wouldn't want to have to make that argument if all I had to support it was one instance of Canelo being briefly stunned while still teenaged and able to make 150lb), he certainly doesn't defend as cannily.

I don't think that stopping Martirosyan would have been much of a particularly creditable feat for Golovkin even at Martirosyan's best, let alone now. The Armenian has shown himself durable enough over the years, but it's not as if he faced a preponderance of pure offensive talent in his time. As debilitating a puncher and as focused on attack as Golovkin is, taking Vanes out is a fairly routine day at the office, and anything less is a bad look. Martin Murray was a durable and defensively responsible operator who had never been stopped before, but that didn't make me feel like he could endure 12 with Golovkin, because he was a pure also-ran whose relatively modest abilities were adequate only for prolonging his suffering when pitted against a heavy-handed attacker of legitimate championship quality. It's a similar story with Vanes, in as much as the best he can do is to delay the inevitable. And Murray wasn't a career JMW coming off a two-year layoff. If I wasn't particularly impressed by Golovkin doing away with him, I don't see why I should be in any way moved when he deals with Vanes inside the distance here.

I don't see how some of you can have so much patience for Golovkin. 8 years as a champion and he's only just fought his first two top world level fighters and now he's back at it fighting JrMWs who stand ZERO chance.

I was big on GGG until about the time following the Rubio fight when it dawned on me that he was getting a lot of hype but did not have the resume to support it.

I don't blame anyone but GGG and Loeffler for fighting Vanes. He had multiple opportunities to accept challenges from more respectable opponents, and he could have also changed the date of the fight.

Anyone who gives GGG a pass for Vanes is either a nuthugger. or doesn't care much about competition.

Here are the "real life" reactions ive gotten to the Sullivan/Vanes/Munguia opponent for GGG

1- Well there's not much time left to find an opponent
2- He's trying to secure that canelo payday, makes sense
3- GGG is getting old, he doesnt want to fight a killer for small money
4- GGG back to fighting bums again

Interest in this fight is lackluster to say the least. Online fan reaction has been largely negative. Even my initial reaction was anger. Now, I'm like f it, but will say that may 5th is toast, unless we get reasonably priced tickets to the fight. Its more the event rather than the fight that I care about to be honest.

Canelo was a 19 year old kid fighting an experienced fighter.

Martirosyan has never been KO, but he's been KD by some good punches.

Also, Martirosyan has never been inactive for more than 7 months. When he fights GGG it will have been 2 years, and only has 4 weeks to prep to fight in a division he has never competed in, against the reigning MWchampion. This is acceptable to you?

    1. Several top level opponents volunteered
    2. He already had a 15 million dollar payday and its not 100% Canelo will grant him the rematch, especially after how GGG behaved towards him and DLH.
    3. GGG has always had an excuse why he couldn't make "this fight, or that fight". He's 35 years old. Sergio Martinez, Juan Manuel Marquez, Bernard Hopkins, Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather were all competing well at 35 despite starting professionally sooner than GGG.
    4. GGG has only fought subpar opposition, except in 2017, and they were both near disasters for him and his marketability.

I've watched most of GGG's fights since 2014, but I have zero interest in this fight. Vanes is a JrMW, he hasn't fought in 2 years, he's never been at the top of his division, and has lost every time he's stepped up.

You know, if the canelo rematch wasnt looming, im sure ggg would have no problem fighting Dchenko.
Its that money they are after. Why fight Dchenko for 1.5 million when you can fight Vanes for the same money to virtually ensure you get to fight a guy that most had you beating for 15 million?? Of course it sucks for us as fans, but it is what it is. We can yell and scream all we want, but it wont change the fact that this fight is happening, will do mediocre numbers. If GGG was a true ducker he would have vacated the WBA and not fought Jacobs, who is a threat to any middleweight, so he could secure the canelo money.

Is the rematch really looming though? There are no contracts, there has nothing been said about the fight being made this year. Also why does GGG's career have to revolve around Canelo? GGG should move on and fancy Canelo when Canelo is ready. He already took step aside money thrice, he declined Saunders at Oscar's request, and now he's fighting a JrMW because he thinks there is a chance he might fight Canelo again?

    Come on now.

Why does GGG career revolve around Canelo?? Good question. Unfortunately it appears it the MONEY
GGG want that money that’s why he getting bossed around like this. Pretty sad but that’s what an aging fighter gonna do for that 15 million.

As for the rematch getting made, it’s the biggest fight in stateside boxing. I’m sure Canelo fancies his chances he went 12 competitive rounds with ggg the first time and where else he gonna sell 1.3 to 1.5 million PPV ?

How is this guy supposed to get in fighting shape with only three weeks ahead and after two years since his last fight? is he working as a sparring partner? why did vanes vanish after the lara rematch?
