He had a rough start but tightened up his defense. And by the midway he was sitting down and hurting Akhmedov.

 

I said that too, can't miss with the uppercut, was there all day. Akhmedov only ever took it away when he focused on his movement but he kept lapsing on his concentration to do that. But in fairness to him Góngora kept cutting him off and putting him off his game and that's what the lovely science of boxing is all about!

 

Just noticed Carlito's Way on Gongora's trunks.

GREAT movie. I like this guy, he showed a ton of heart tonight.

He ate a LOT of clean punches.
And he fought in a predictable rhythm.
Set, exploded from his guard and then reset again, looking for another opportunity to explode.

 

Yeah once he wasn't worried about looping punches coming around the guard (which Akhmedov strangely abandoned), he kept that guard nice and tight and nullified the straight punches coming in for the most part.

 

I'm happy for Gongorra that was great, hope he gets a nice opportunity behind it.

 

Honestly that was a Fight of the year Ko of the year and upset of the year contender just amazing I'm in awe of what a good fight that was

 

Is he really the first ever champion from Ecuador? Amazing.

I'm so glad I'm watching this fight night. I had not the intention, tbh, but I changed my mind. And I'm enjoying it a freaking lot.

 

well, this guy in ecuador must be a giant. There people are not very tall. Nice people, though. Lovely people.
