I doubt Golovkin would've waded in like a maniac against Ouma if he was a puncher.

If ouma had power, maybe Golovkin would have fought him differently and gotten hit less. If ouma had power, he would be a borderline great fighter when motivated, if ouma had power he wouldnt be ouma and wouldnt have developed the style he did. Maybe if ouma had power golovkin would have the chin to take the punches anyway.

Lots of ifs, maybes, and what ifs.

He would give away a lot at 175, a guy like Beterbiev who has the height of Martin Murray but with extra bulk and with all the power of a Kovalev would wreck Golovkin.

These guys are coming down from cruiserweight, there's no way Golovkin could hang at 175, he would get knocked out, no question.

The man himself doesn't think so, nor does his trainer. Personally I am unsure, but I would like to see him test the waters.

Nice info, but I don't understand why you mentioned anything about his religious practices. It makes it almost sound like "Thank God he's not a Muslim!" That seems like something no one should care about besides himself and his family members. It just seems out of left field that you'd mention his religious background.

GGG drained would still be enough to beat two ageing welters. And he'd most likely blow back up to around 165 overnight. He's unwilling to do for Lara however who would be a bigger risk so that suggests he belongs nowhere near 154.

Even if that were my personal opinion ("thank god he isn't") - how could you glean any such kind of editorializing from my OP? :huh

The fact is that GGG has been incorrectly referred as both Muslim and ethnically Kazakh by various websites and blogs. Hence 'setting the record straight' on those simple biographical details, which are matters of public record and easy to locate. (but which bear reiterating to quell the spread of misinformation)

That isn't to say it would be the end of the world if Golovkin were either a Muslim or ethnically Kazakh, but lazy reporting has often cited him as either or both and he is neither. That's all.

    I'm sorry but No.

I have not only considered a fraction of Golovkin's career. I have considered the whole of Golovkin's career to this point. Up to this point, Golovkin's resume doesn't compare to Hopkins'. Hopkins has the better body of work @ 160...

    Exactly, up to NOW.

Golovkin has been involved with middleweight world title championship bouts for just 5 years and is still in his prime, and as I detailed in the original post is a perfectly average sized middleweight, so barring a payday chase at other weights or a career shortening Iinjury there is no reason to assume he will do anything but remain involved with middleweight world championship bouts for the next several years as his prime hits its peak and then denouement.

So the logical conclusion is he is only now halfway building his legacy @ 160lbs, making it anything but apples to apples compared with the entirety of Hopkins' decade long body of work during his contiguous reign between the Jones I and Taylor I losses.

By two aging welterweights do you mean Pacquiao and Mayweather? :think

I actually believe the six pounds would make a massive difference.

At middleweight both of them get SMASHED. At 154 both actually have a great chance, just based on Golovkin's form that light being a COMPLETE unknown. He last fought that light in the juniors, at welterweight in 2001 (the amateur welterweight division has an equivalent limit to junior middle in the pros). Middleweight in the amateurs, where he spent his last few years there, is 165.5lbs. So FOURTEEN YEARS have passed since he fought weighing south of the pro MW limit. Abel Sanchez Iis just sensationalizing and spouting off at the mouth, as trainers do. Neither he nor Golovkin honestly believe he should attempt making 154. Saying he is willing and confident and calling outamega stars like Floyd and Manny is just a way to hype Golovkin up and keep his name on people's lips. Really not hard to read between the lines there. He isnt a small or even average-to-smallish MW; he is dead average, if anything bordering on average-to-slightly-big, very solid and strong at the weight even if he isnt shredded. Dropping to 154 would be an unmitigated DISASTER. It would be Ward vs. . Dawson (dropping eight pounds south to a division in which Dawson hadn't competed Iin a few years, but far less than fourteen) or worse, Pacquiao vs. DLH (dropping to a division nominally seven pounds south and overshooting, weighing less than Oscar had Iin several years, but still less than fourteen) app over again.

As for Beterbiev a lock over Golovkin, that's no given. I recently made a poll thread pitting Golovkin against Kovalev and the results were a deadheat.

    ...and Kovalev >>>>>> Beterbiev.

Golovkin carrying even 65% of his power up would have to at the very least be considered a live dog with Beterbiev in light of the Page incident. (unless you doubt there is a humongous skill disparity between Golovkin and Page - or that guys about Golovkin's height with similar or smaller frames have ever been ssuccessful at light heavy or above - :hi:, Ray Leonard, Roy Jones, etc)
