I pretty much agree with this. What I do think, is with proper lead-time Abel was not lying when he said they could do it. It could probably be done "OK" about once. But maybe not.

Just because GGG isnt "huge", and is reputedly very professional - unlike many fighters I think he would actually would be disciplined about it from start to finish. But it would still be risky.

However, if he started doing it regularly it would probably cut his remaining career in half at least.

Keeping in mind the catch offered to Rosado which I believe was 158, and his recent form I would estimate that the most Golovkin could *safely* make would be 157. And that is probably stretching it a bit. Starting to get into "good camp vs bad camp" territory there.

I believe they both get smashed at 154 as well. Neither beat a legit 154 pounder without some catch weight for me to think other wise

Just like Chavez used look like a frail sick patient the day before and then was a monster on fight night.

GGG will blow back up huge over night unless there is some bogus rehydration limit. He'll be too big and too strong.

i think Golovkin would degrade significantly below 158.

Page shoved Beterbiev and cracked him with a quick sneaky right as he was off balance. It was of those old pro moves that Page has probably practised in the gym many times. Beterbiev wasn't remotely hurt when he got back up. Golovkin obviously has uncanny power and a seemingly very good chin (at least very good at MW, and maybe even granite), and whilst we've all heard the rumours of him handling bigger and even much bigger fighters in the gym, including world class and even world champions and former world champions, sparring is sparring and we have no idea how he'll be able to stand up to the power of fearsome punching LHWs in a real fight.

This! His last 2 fights he has come in 172-174 he would have to cut pure muscle to get down to 154 it could destroy his career like Dawson just did.

Golovkin weighed in at 159 for his last two fights so it's only really 5lbs not 6lbs he has to shed to get down to 154. :smooch

It was only a few pounds for Dawson too. Were talking about cutting muscle and draining the fluid around the brain it can seriously ruin him. He came in to his last 2 fights at 172-174 I wouldn't want him to risk it because he seems legit and has worked very hard especially after his career stalling earlier due to being mishandled by his promotional company. I'd rather have him stay and reign at 160 than feast on smaller fighters anyway. Unless it's Canelo who comes in as a LHW.

i don't like the idea of Triple G at 154 or 175, the least bit. moot point since he'll never go to either of them. eventually 168 is coming, when the $ makes sense enough to mess with his routine.

Thats called making weight at the MW limit. Thats GGG starved and drained. Cutting another pound makes a huge difference.
I liked you better when you were posting 2-3 times per year.

One thing people do tend to underestimate is the last 2 pounds. When you reach your "soft cap" for weight dropping, that is - the lowest your body wants to go without shedding non-critical fat and water - then *anything* below that is a big deal.

Once you get past that point, any water or fat you lose is coming from cranium fluid or organs. It can alter immune function, not replenish/recover by fight time, lower reflexes and thinking capacity, decrease stamina, lower punch resistance and a host of other possible negative effects. And until someone drains, you never know how it will take someone.

All that is just draining, not to mention possible consequences of not eating enough during weeks of hard training. "Left some of himself in the gym" is a coined adage for a reason.

The problem is, no one knows for sure what Golovkins soft cap actually is. All we know for sure is its somewhere below 159 pounds. I doubt Abel or Golovkin know either, they are probably just willing to risk it for a Floyd fight. (which is the only reason they would do 154 per TomL)

Yeah, GGG dropping to 154 is a bad bad idea.

This is nothing more than an assumption on your part. How about we stick to the FACTS? I can make assumptions too - but they don't mean anything...

Can't say for sure about GGGs mom but I'd have to gues she's of Korean Soviet descent. Lotta Koreans emmigrated to Russia in the latter part of the 19th C. and early 20th due to declining conditions in their native country and settled in largely ethnically h0m0genous communities - this process continued through the Soviet years though many of these communities were 'encouraged' in the Stalin years to relocate to areas which were earmarked for development (such as Kazakhstan). Due to the h0mogenity of these Korean Soviet communities it would seem that many of their members remained ethnically distinct from the surrounding populations through a number of generations despite taking on Russian names and some customs over time.

Oh. And I believe Kostyas father was of mixed heritage - Korean (prolly also Korean Soviet) and Central Asian (wiki has it as Mongolian) and his mother Russian.
