I get your point but come on? Ward has about 40% of the skill of Whitaker. Pernell was damn near untouchable, but Ward is getting touched by guys who couldn't even make weight. I think the other guys point was that Golovkin wouldn't be thrown off his game by Ward's power. Ward has a couple tricks that would force ggg out of his comfort zone, but it wouldn't be his power that did it.
I flip flop on this one. For now, I'm 60/40 Ward. He's got the right style to spoil his way to a win- I could see a scenario where he neutralizes GGG's command of distance well enough to win on points. He would be the noticeably bigger fighter. That's enough for an edge odds-wise for me. I still wouldn't bet on the outcome. Ask me next week, and I may be backing the GGG case.
As 50/50 as a fight gets. I think Kovalev brings more to the fight than just devastating power. He can box well, has a very good jab and can defend. Ward has athletic ability, a good jab, great speed of both hands and feet. Can sit down on his punches if he needs to, so he can punch a little. He's got world class experience and can fight good on the inside. I'm going with Ward, because I think his experience level and athleticism will be enough to edge Kovalev in this fight. Kova will have his moments, but Ward will endure and conquer!! AND NEW!!
There is zero comparison between srl or Ali and ggg at this point and it's an embarrassment to even have to tell you that. Right now ggg is the mw Deontay wilder and until he gets a signature win all of his amateur accomplishments mean nothing
i'd have to wait to see how ward does vs kovalev. i dont think ward is the same fighter he was 3 years ago and kovalev will be sure to let us know if he is or isnt.
160 GGG (Ward too drained) 168 toss-up (I'd pick Ward if the Super 6 version shows up. Now I'm not sure that Ward can make 168 comfortably) 175 Ward
