Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin, recently promoted to 'regular' WBA champion at MW as Felix Sturm is now 'super champion', will travel to Mexico City to face Marco Antonio Rubio in his backyard. No papers signed yet, but it's more than likely to happen on December 11.

Golovkin might be the most talented of the new crop of MW talents (Pirog, Jacobs, Lemieux, N'Dam, Macklin, Guerrero, Barker, Quillin etc.), but it's still a step-up for the highly decorated amateur. He captured the interim version of the 160lbs belt in August inside a single minute vs. Milton Nunez.

Rubio is a well known limited KO artist who had an interesting year. He stopped Saul Alvarez' big brother Rigoberto who since then became an interim titleholder at LMW, and in August, Marco Antonio stopped Jose Luis Zertuche. The last and only time Rubio lost a fight in Mexico was 9 years ago.

It's an interesting fight as GGG is facing his hardest punching opponent of date, who is also conditioned to go 12 rounds. And it will be certainly interesting to see if Golovkin can make a shorter work of the Mexican puncher than former World MW Champion Kelly Pavlik - Rubio gave up that fight at the beginning of the 10th round. The winner is supposed to face either Felix Sturm or this weekend's winner of N'Dam vs. Khurtsidze.

My main worry with GGG is that they will end up matching him too carefully through his career. His only chance of greatness, in my view, is to fight every fight out of the North/Central America from now on. I wish him luck.

I knew a big GGG fan, who actually became a fan of GGG before he saw him fight! I don't think you know him Dece Bal. His name was Decebal.

This is a rubbish fight when you consider who he was supposed to fight (N'Jikam) but nevertheless it's still a decent fight.

N'Dam-Khurtsidze was supposed to go down regardless. I see no problem Gennady being busy in the meantime, but they do have unfinished business in the ring, consider these fights semi-finals. Damn, Pirog-Jacobs was already spectacular, too bad Barker-Macklin didn't happen. The division is about to explode.

this is a decent fight, at least Rubio has a name, but I see a fairly easy stoppage win for GG. I'm tired of waiting for Golovkin-Sturm, when will it happen??

He'll still need to fight N'Jikam next if N'Jikam beats Khurtsidze this weekend.

Anyway, nice step up for Golovkin I think. By far the best opponent of his career so far. GGG wide UD or late TKO.

I would not make to much out of Rubio's power. He did stop Zertuche, but Zertuche left his punch resistance on the end of a Pavlik uppercut, and about 400 flush shots from Zuniga. Rubio did not knock Ornales down, but McKart put him down twice. Rubio couldn't even knock the grin off Pavlik's face even though Pavlik gave him 4 or 5 free shots.

This is a nice step-up fight, and the kind of fight we need to get the potentially awesome middleweight division moving at full speed, but Golovkin should win big.

It seems Canadian promoter Yvon Michel 'stole' Rubio who will now face David Lemieux in a WBC eliminator on December 3. Not sure if an eliminator still means something given there's an interim and a silver champ as well, but why not collect more sanctioning fees?

Too bad because I was looking forward to this fight, but I'm pretty used to see Golo opponents pulling out. Rubio facing Lemieux instead is actually a pretty nice compliment to GGG, who will take on Nilson Julio Tapia in Germany on December 10.

The Golovkin fight was already off before the WBC order Lemieux-Rubio!

Golovkin vs. Tapia should be a decent fight, they both blew out Nunez in a round

though I for sure expect Golovkin to take Tapia out in about three times as many rounds
