I have no problem with someone not moving up a weight class to face the best there. What annoys is making big noises and not following through.

You would have a point if Golovkin had made moving up in weight his priority.
Worthless comparison. Ward clearly would have fought GGG in 2015 for the same or more $ as he got against Kovalev (a much bigger threat).

GGG was willing to fight Ward at 168 when Ward was going into surgery and was in a contract dispute and when Ward had gone to 175. In between that he wouldn't face him above 164.

Ward pretending that he only wanted Kovalev. He would have fought GGG in 2015 too.
Golovkin went around looking for fights at 168 when he had other issues at 160.
Ward's myriad problems are not Golovkin's problem. Ward was not entitled to a fight anyway.

Err... Ward did face Kovalev. Twice. No talk of catch weight.

And? If he had refused to fight Kovalev but remained at 168 should that have been held against him?

Did Ward go 50-50 with Kovalev?

If his trainer had said that Ward would fight anyone at 175 and Ward shortly after had said he wanted the fight, at a time when Kovalev was going into surgery and in contract dispute, and later only wanted to face him at a catch weight, until he finally called him out at 175 when he had moved to CW... Yes, that would look a bit silly in my eyes.

Well, he didn't say he would go 50-50 with him at a catch weight of 171.

I’d put him somewhere between 20 and lol.

Do you take TV callouts and Twitter challenges seriously too?

Ward's legal troubles only concern him. Golovkin had no obligation to wait for Ward.

No, but agreeing to fight someone who can't fight because of injury and contract dispute doesn't mean anything. Agreeing to fight said fighter when he is able to fight does. But when that happened GGG suddenly wanted a catch weight.

Golovkin only agreed to fight Ward because he was not getting fights at 160.
Well then Ward should not have been fighting Goossen.
That was Golovkin's way of saying he had better fights lined up at 160. Ward would not get a 50:50 split @168 in 2015.

He didn't get a 50-50 split at 168 when he was able to fight. Only when he wasn't. Then he for some reason suddenly became interesting at 168 again when he had moved to 175. It could all be coincidences, that is not impossible, but personally I don't think it is.

To me it looks a lot like they wanted make GGG look like a rugged tough guy who would fight anybody, even at 168, when they reckoned they could do it without actually having to go through with it.

I think I've made a good argument for that view, but each to his own. But I don't think it in any way effects GGG ranking at MW, which is the subject for this thread, so I'll leave it at that.
