I have no dog in the fight, watched the fight live, and don't understand German so I wasn't biased by the commentating. Gevor landed more punches than Sturm threw, and most of Sturm's punches were blocked as well. I didn't see Gevor look hurt the whole fight. I gave Sturm all of 2 rounds and was shocked by the decision. Maybe if I understood German I would have known what was coming.

Agreed, but let's not derail the thread by discussing this matter with him. He won't change his mind anyway. He lives in his own little world and tries to turn every thread into Pavlik-AA. His hatred for AA is unreal...

I think you can fight a report of the fight at fightwriter... it pretty much describes what I saw - http://www.fightwriter.com/?q=node/2301

Sturm's body shots could even be heard on TV and I'm sure they were the reason for the late fade of Gevor. Gevor was running the last few rounds and only reason he survived was that Sturm doesn't know how to cut the ring off (in addition that he is not a big puncher). While the first half goes to Gevor based on activity, he was outclassed the last half of the fight. I didn't even have it that close.

How much did HBO, or any other network, offer for a Pavlik/Abraham fight?

How much did AA offer Pavlik to fight in Germany?

What was the proposed purse split?

You cannot answer those questions because the answers do not exist. Sauerland NEVER allowed any serious negotiations to happen, and by his own admission he NEVER proposed a fight in Germany. Think about that. They claim they wanted KP, but they never offered any kind of deal to fight in Abraham's largest and most lucrative market. They claim they wanted KP, but never proposed the fight to HBO so they could get some real dollar numbers to talk about. Does that really make sense?

Dude, this is thread is neither about AA or Pavlik, so what is the point of this? And why you keep asking about offers or purse splits, like anybody here is supposed to know what happens in closed door negotiations? This is the last thing I will post in this thread about this. Let it go.

Here was my contemporaneous writeup of the fight. I may have to go back and rewatch the fight at some point, because my initial impression was that it wasn't even close.

Yep! I heartfully agree with you! Sturm would have lost his encounter with Gevor if that fight had taken place outside his backyard in a neutral place.

Golovkin is for real.I dont dare to bet my house on him,but I for one think that he has a pretty decent chance to dethrone Sturm.
Could really go either way,but if forced I would put my money on Golovkin. He seems to be the complete package.

Calling Golovkin a bum because you've never heard of him or seen him fight? You're a clown and stfu.

Smith got injured a couple days before the fight.

I have a hard time seeing how Golovkin would lose to Sturm. When he does get a strap i just hope he doesn't end up like Erdie. Make a couple title defences to get a bit more experience then push for unification with Pavlik or whoever has them.

Maybe the Roach angle will entice some HBO interest in unification and then Pavlik inherits the mandotory?

Just not true or are you thinking you win rounds on ineffective aggressiveness. Close fight that's all. The first Grffin fight was close but Sturm gave him a rematch and beat him clearly.

Thanks for the link. I think we'll agree to disagree. Being a cognitive psychologist by trade, I'm always curious how people see the same thing differently. For example, you say that Gevor would come inside with ease... I would say that it was part of the Sturm tactics to get him inside (actually I believe it was the wrong tactics, he would have beaten him much easier with movement)... you say the ref was breaking them too early, and I would say he was breaking them about right and probably wrong for not cautioning Gevor for the use of head. It is one thing to pin an opponent to the ropes, the other to rub your head at your opponents forehead when he is at the ropes. There is no need to push him back, he's already at the ropes, and you should simply box him inside. I don't think it was intentional, Gevor just fights that way, but surely it was a bit weird if not illegal to push the opponent with head if he's in front of you and not moving anywhere.

Anyway, thanks for keeping it civilised. I guess we'd have to watch it both again with taking into accounts different subtleties each of us saw.

    Take care.

i also agree with brickhaus, i was shocked to hear the scores as well. it seemed like sturm didn't know what to do and all gevor was doing was getting inside and pressuring him.
