As our fellow poster has already pointed out it is quite difficult to describe Golovkin's style. He can punch as well as box as well as run- a very versatile fighter who can take out an opponent with a single shot.
He brutally stopped his last African foe in the very first round of their encounter. That Africn had been able to go the full route with fighters like Felix Sturm,Jamie Pittman,Aslanbek Kodzoev, and some other known names.
I watched Golovkin's fight with the Frenchman Sylvian Gomis live. Not really sure anymore, but I think it was Golvokin's 4th or 5th fight in the paid ranks.
Gomis is as tough as nails and no pushover at all.He had drawed with Artur Abraham ' s undefeated brother in one of his previous fights and had gone the full route with Christian Sanavia in another one. However,he was totally out of shoes against Golovkin who systematically dismantled him knocking him out in round 4 of their encounter. He impressed me a lot in that fight.
He also impressed me against Sergej Khomitsky who is a teak tough Belarussian journeyman with a decent record.Though he had lost to Khoren Gevor before he met Golovkin in the ring he had shown in his encounter with the Armenian warrior that he can take a punch and that he is a game and courageous boxer who fights tooth and nail even if he is outgunned and outclassed. He had gone the full route with Khoren Gevor. However, that didnt help him much against Golovkin who knocked him out in round 5.
Golovkin is a classy fighter with a huge potential who can go very far at the pros.
The olympic silver medalist schooled the hyped Lee at the amateurs, and kicked his American opponent Dirrel out of the last olympic tournament.

Thank you for the great infos, Odo!

Khomitsky is a tought and very duable fighter. He was a good step-up opponent and a great win.

I'm looking at Gennady's boxrec record right now and I find it quite interesting that he's still fighting 8 rounders... is he having stamina problems? Another info is that he had only 3 fights last year, 3 8 rounders. Is he having injuries? Other Spotlight prospects fight more often...

Not really sure anymore, but as far as I can remember he had some health problems a few months ago.
You are right. He doesnt fight that often for a rising and promising former amateur star. A pity that he isnt American based. He is hardly marketable in Germany.A native Kazaki with some russian blood in his veins who cant speak german wont be a big shot in Germany.

Well... he can learn the language... I'm sure crazy talents can be very marketable whether they speak the language or not... a few great wins and his manager gonna have horrible nights as his phone will ring 24/7. UBP/Spotlight is a good stable to make it to the champ level but for the international (Europe, US) level, he needs a better promoter. In Europe, Arena is getting better and better and if his style is there and can learn the language, a US-based promotion is a possibility IMO... but it all depends on talent...

I'm just fearful the Great G doesn't end up like Dzindziruk...someone of his talent should not be fighting out of Germany unless his promoter was prepared to back him to the hilt, like they do with Povetkin, for example.

    I fear so,too,decebal!

Golovkin doesnt deserve Dzinziruk 's fate. The classy Ukranian has defeated whoever was put in front of him,but just doesnt get any big fights or paychecks.Soon he will be past his prime and nobody will care a fig for him anymore.Makes me sad! Dzindziruk is German based, but even there his name recognition is zero. By now he should be a known name here in europe and over the great pond in the USA.Lesser talented fighters are much better known than him.Life isnt fair.
I very much hope that Golovkin wont be hidden on undercards fighting opponents who dont demand much money in meaningless fights!

This is the main problem I have with German boxing...this has happened to Inkin too! So many good fighters make very decent money fighting nobodies, but rarely make it to the vey top and the top money because most don't get the chance. I'm glad Bute, for example, didn't go to fight out of Germany. He is much better off at Interbox in Montreal.

Learn the language and you won't have a problem - see: Abraham, Frenkel, Hernandez, ALekseev, Dimitrenko

I agree that these fighters should all speak German at least very well, given the great support and acceptance they receive from the German public. And they could do much more to ingratiate themselves with the German public in general, true.

But, at the same time, these top fighters should get better fights from their German promoters. They should be pushed more, not left to stagnate against modest opposition keeping that "0".

Frenkel and Abraham grew up in Germany, and Alexeev isnt yet a big shot in Germany.
Besides Abraham,Frenkel, and the young Cuban have a contract with Kohl's rival Sauerland who doesnt hesitate to spend some bucks in order to sign a good opponent.
Whats more Sauerland's boys get far more media attention than Kohl's fighters.
By the same token I now and then have the impression that Kohl and his box promotion dont have a clue how to promote a fighter properly.
Stupid entrance music(Boytsov),ludicrious matchmaking(Chagaev vs Skelton),no broacasting of most of his undercard fighters on German tv on part of Kohl's tv partner, and so on.
Language skills are important, but they dont help you if you dont get any meaningful fights.
Bidenko speaks German quite well whereas Valuev can hardly utter two German words.

...and Povetkin doesn't speak more than a word or two either...yet, he is doing very, very well!

So...it's clearly not just about language skills; sure, the HWs always pull better crowds and more hype, but still...The Great G, Dzindziruk and Inkin should all be doing a lot better...language skills or not.

Alekseev is touted as the next big thing by UBP and by it's TV Channel ZDF...why do you think he's matched very tough up to this moment - I can see Alekseev being the next Michalczewski for UBP...

    I dont think so,but I do hope so,tom!

Alexeev has the potential to rule the roost at cruiser for a very long time

he showed a very impressive performance in his last fight blasting out of the ring a fighter in 2 rounds who had gone 10 rounds with David Tua
