History shows that the current lineage goes all the way back to Bernard Hopkins, a guy who set the record for the most Middleweight Title Defenses. (which by the way a record that Triple G is trying to break, so the historical significance of this cannot be understated) Further, the fact is that the current Lineage at Middleweight is the Longest Current Lineage of Any Weight Class in Boxing.

The fact that the current Lineage at Middleweight is connected to a guy that set the record for the Most Middleweight Title Defenses and to your point about occasionally there being breaks in Lineages, the fact that the Middleweight Lineal Title has the longest current continuous (unbroken) Lineage of Any Weight Class in Boxing adds to its importance and its historical significance. The Lineal Title matters, I'm not stating that it's more important than having the alphabet titles, but it's definitely important and you're trying to downplay its importance really is an insult to boxing and its history.

You are therefore similarly endorsing the WBC, WBA and IBF titles held by GGG, because the same Bernard Hopkins held those organisations' middleweight titles too.

At the same time you are deliberately playing dumb on the fact there are about 8 linkage breaks in the lineal middleweight title and it ceased being the man who beat the man who beat the man a long, long time ago.

The difference being that the Lineal Title was vacant when Hopkins acquired those Titles, and since it was vacant at that time, a new Lineage was established when he fought Trinidad and he became the New Lineal Champ. In Triple G's case, he was embarrassingly and pathetically "handed" the WBC Title by a Corrupt Boxing Organization who essentially forced Canelo to vacate the title after paying Triple G so-called step aside money repeatedly. You obviously cannot become "The Man" of a division by being handed a title by such sleezy corrupt boxing political shenanigans. You also seem to gloss over my response directly to your point about there being breaks in lineage. With Middleweight having the Longest Current Lineage of Any Weight Class in Boxing, this should be right down your alley as far as having long uninturrupted Lineages. The fact that the current Middleweight Lineage is longer than any other division in boxing makes it even more relevant and important than other Division's Lineal Titles as far as I'm concerned. The fact that it can be traced back to a universally recognized Legendary Middleweight Champ like Hopkins makes it even that much more important.

How am I playing dumb? I directly addressed it being vacant between 1994 and 2000. It's the Man Who Beat the Man who Beat the Man in terms of the current Lineage. Sure, fighters have retired or moved up in weight never to return and a New Lineage was established. I pretty much agree with what you're saying as I alluded to in my prior post that the longer the lineage the better. To be clear, even though Hopkins never beat the Man "James Toney", he still became the Man by beating the Man Trinidad, who by the way just so happened to be the Lineal Champ at Welterweight when he moved up from welterweight.

It didn't cease being the Man who Beat the Man who Beat the Man, it just required a fight big enough to warrent that distinction to establish a new Man. (#1 vs #2 ranked fighters in a division, Multiple Major World Titles on the Line, etc) By all accounts, Hopkins was known as the Man at Middleweight when he beat Trinidad. I don't think you'll find anyone to dispute this claim considering Toney had long left the division by then and Hopkins did not have an opportunity to fight him and continue that Lineage. Triple G has an opportunity to become the Man in this lineage if he can beat Canelo so you should be thrilled at this opportunity for your fighter, instead you are going on about breaks in lineages decades ago. I get your point, but it has nothing to do with the current lineage which is what matters now.

Fact is none of the lineal titles are really the man-who-beat-the-man-who-beat-the-man. The links in the chains all have breaks in them and the continuity lost years and years ago.

Rubbish. That's exactly what it did. That you can't admit that simple fact makes it pointless wasting any more time talking to you.

You're taking it too literally. It's known as the Man who Beat the Man who Beat the Man. Not The Man who beat the Man over and over again dating back to the first ever champion. There's continuity within lineages.

Let me ask you this : Take the First Ever Middleweight Champion Nonpareil Dempsey. Did he Beat the Man of the Division to become Lineal Champ any more than Hopkins became the Man by beating Trinidad? Nonpareil Dempsey became the first ever Middleweight Champion and Lineal Champ in the same way that Hopkins became Lineal Champion, by fighting and beating the guy regarded as the Top Guy in the Division at that Time. Nonpareil's opponent for the Title in the first Ever Middleweight Title Fight wasn't established as the Man of the Division before he fought him. Don't you see a Lineage has to start somewhere. I think you will agree that the longer the Lineage the more important it is. It's true that Canelo's Lineal Title can't be traced back directly to Nonpareil's title, it's not the same Lineage, there's been occasional breaks with fighters retiring or moving up in weight or whatever the case may be, but Nonpareil never really Beat the Man when he won the Title because there was no Man at that time.

I fully acknowledge that there have been breaks in the chain so to speak. But it never ceased being the Man who Beat the Man who Beat the Man. That theme continues to this very day. If The Man retires or moves up never to return to the weight class, a new Man can be established as we've seen throughout history. The current lineage goes as far back as Bernard Hopkins. Before that there was a break in the chain obviously when Toney moved up and vacated.

Me being critical of GGG where I think it's deserved just shows I am able to do so. No where is your wall of text do 8 see you faulting Canelo for anything. Which sort of proves my point.

The WBC I am sure has mandatory splits for purse bids. I would guess they don't have a specific paragraph that describes these splits to favor GGG.

I would bet GGGs team would not going to accept a 90/10 fight as quoted by Oscar so why not let it go to purse bid? That's smart business right? If the mandatory split is 75/25 that would be the correct play would it not?

And I didn't think step asides money was paid by the WBC, I thought it was paid by the fighter looking to duck his mandatory.
We obviously are going to agree on how the whole situation went down and that's ok. I hope the fight ends with no controversy but I'm doubting that unless it's an absolute clean KO, the losing side will find something to cry foul about. I am in the majority of GGG fans that believes GGG has to win by KO. He will never get a decision. Every close round will go to Canelo.

Your points about the lineal title I can agree with some of them.

However it wasn't GGGs fans insisting he was now the lineal champ. The first I read that was in Big Dans weekly ESPN Boxing chat.

I know you disagree, and it really doesn't matter anyway since it will be decided in the ring g next month.

Canelo gave up his title, then fought for a title at a lower class..154. I believe it was at this time he "declared" he would be fighting back at 160, then signs to fight JCjr at another BS SMW catchweight.

It was the feeling of Big Dan, and I agree as do others, that Canelo left the division and fought at 2 other weight classes, so at that time the best two fighters at MW fought to start the new lineage.

The WBC chooses when and with who to enforce their rules.

They need to understand their worth.

As fans we pay to see fighters like Canelo, Mayweather, Golovkin fight, not necessarily for a title.

I see Canelo pulling a dlh and faking injury to postpone another 2 months then starting real camp to throw off ggg.
