I just don't see it. Sure they both had great balance and leverage, but their styles and are very different. Kostya was a more conventional boxer puncher who fought from outside. And his feet were much quicker. Gennady fights at midrange with a modified Chavez "Predator" style. Coming in off his jab and blocking and parrying, attacking downstairs and upstairs. His knockouts come by attrition, bodyshot or shot to the head. Kostya went to the body to vary his attack, but he was mostly a headhunter who fought on the outside, and his ko's usually came from one punch. Kostya used his jab a lot to paw and distract. I don't recall seeing Gennady doing that. Kostya loved the 1-2. Also not something Gennady relies on.
I'm a really big fan of Kostya, someone I rank very highly at 140 lbs. He's arguably in the top 10 all time at JWW which is saying a lot. That being said, I'd say they're very close now. Gennady has had a very long streak at MW, and while the competition hasn't been elite, it's not really his fault. These are the MW fighters of his era, and he can only fight who's readily available for him. I wish he went up to SMW years ago rather than wasting his time attempting to unify a division where a lot of the champions have been very reluctant to get in the ring with him. Had he moved up and beaten Ward, he'd clearly be above Kostya right now IMO. A few more fights at MW should easily put him ahead. A win over Alvarez followed by a rematch with Jacobs should be more than enough. I would like to see him unify and get the final strap that BJS has been holding hostage, but I have my doubts Saunders will fight him anytime soon.
Very similar fighters in many senses. Tszyu right now for me.. He unified LWW at 30 years old against Judah. Beat better names too.. Love the Diosbelys Hurtado fight. Hurtado was beating sweet pea before it was stopped!
Tszyu is greater by resume but I think Golovkin is better H2H. I don't see how GGG can find a better scalp than Chavez right now. Tszyu also destroyed one of our local hard men, a slugger called Bergman. That dude could hit.
Phillips was a good boxer and that fight was tight until Tsyzu ran into some heavy leather. He came back & unified the division after? His two losses he went out on his shield - if that's being exposed during a long career - then he was exposed I guess. I still think he's a true champion
Pbf never ducked him you stupid lying troll. How can you duck someone when you fight for a rival network? Pbf was a hbo fighter and zoo was with showtime. They only do cross promotion for mega fights and that wasn't one. But like anything else with bitter irrational pbf haters blame pbf when everything else fails. You're a pos lie spreader and one of the worst posters here. You can never keep it real and will say anything to be heard.
You're an idiot of the highest order. You are one of the worst posters on this site, and you are consistently negative, uninformed, and delusional. Only your other alts and the other trolls agree with you. You come into a perfectly good thread, and attempt to ruin it with your stupidity. People like you are what made this once great site the poop hole is become, and of course stupid mods like CST80 or whatever is name is that delete perfectly good threads if they make his ***** insecure, and bans good members for the stupidest reasons while keeping morons like you and the rest of the trolls on board simply because you all obsess over the same fighters.
I'm not your psychologist or your bartender, man. I really don't care about your problems with this site or life in general. I just come here to talk boxing. Why don't you try that for a change and stop stalking me?
Except that they are both Russian-Koreans, they both stood in a single weight division all of their careers, they are both power punchers, and both have extensive amateur backgrounds.
GTFO, you come here to troll, and if you truly aren't trolling, you need to just find another sport to watch. You're a damn parasite. GTFO my thread with your stupid nonsense. Mayweather has always been and will always be greater than Tszyu, but this thread isn't about that. You falkin loser.
Interesting comparison. Tszyu's resume is better, but he has losses. Golovkin has fought one high level guy, and he, Jacobs, didn't bring it, like Phillips brought it to Tszyu, although Jacobs is more talented than Phillips was.
