In his best win to date, top middleweight prospect Gennady Golovkin stopped former PABA/Fedelatin/South American champion Javier Alberto Mamani in just one round in Düsseldorf, Germany. Mamani went 12 with Felix Sturm and hasn't been stopped in 6 years, but the usually less agressive Golovkin put a very impressive and short performance on him. The fight was on the undercard of women boxing fight Menzer-Schouten. The fight happened before the stunning upset of Alexander Alexeev, who lost to Mamani's countryman, Victor Emilio Ramirez.
Nother trainer and nother kind of approach and strategy...Golovkin is far more economic. But he has one problem: changing his rhythm (as far as the fights I watched him)...
Let's not forget about this victory. Hopefully Golovkin will have a busy 2009. He needs more pro experience.
http://www.boxing.de/en/videos/videos/article/alekseev-stopped-by-ramirez/467.html Watch it. Mamani went down on a left hook to the body but could have continued. Though, the stoppage was bs.
He was hurt, but the stoppage was premature. Mamani would have been able to continue figthing for another 30 seconds
TY for the link. i still think the ref stop it a little bit fast but i dont think it would change anything to the results. Very impressive
Golovkin was laying a beating on him, the ref could have let it continue but I doubt it would have done Mamani much good. Mamani didn't protest the stoppage either.
Golovkin is still a greenhorn in the paid ranks, but I like the way he has been matched so far. He beat two good and recognisable names in his last two fights. Neither Mamani nor Dziarra are top fighters, but both of them have a proven track record and have proved that they are decent fighters. Golovkin stopped both Dziarra and Mamani. I ve read somewhere that Golovkin may soon face German based Sebastien Sylvester.
Amateur world champion in 2003 (beating Matt Korobov, Andy Lee, Lucian Bute), Olympic silver medalist in Athens (beating Andre Dirrell in semis, losing to Gaydarbekov in final.)
Most important: Golovkin KOed Bute in the amateurs...just wait to see this happening at the pros :deal
