This is a great way to cover distance and cut off the ring at the same time. A very good technique against movers. It's also the reason why you don't see GGG having any issues fighting southpaws. With shifting, he can throw the southpaw off balance and put himself in the position to punch.
I think this thread has been done before (though it coulda been at 'scene - I get mixed up sometimes), but actually a better exemplar of the technique is Dimitry Pirog with the outstanding example obviously being the Jacobs KO. Kovalevs pretty good as well (take in the shift of the KD2 against Agnew). I'm sure there's plenty of other fighters use it at times too, but few examples stand out as clearly.
When used properly, it's an incredible technique. Not just any fighter can do it through. If you ask Maidana, Rios or Provo to do it, they'd be off balance. They're simply not used to moving this way. Most trainers don't even train it, because they don't understand it very well. GGG, Kovalev and Pirog are masters at it because they've been trained to use technique in the amateurs. That's why when these guys do it, they maintain their balance. Shifting is a great way to catch another fighter off guard because they expect the end of the sequence to be one or two punch sooner, so they let their guard down. Pirog caught Jocobs off guard because Jacobs thought it was safe to punch, when he wasn't. The same thing happened to Agnew against Kovalev. Kovalev is going to give Hopkins a beating because he can cover distances very quickly by employing the technique. Korobov also uses this technique well, but he need to do something about his stamina.
Who are the prominent trainers teaching this in the amateurs? Mainly eastern European Olympic coaches?
Ya i posted it on here when i finished the vid a month or so ago didn't draw much discussion, glad some folks enjoyed it.
That's why they call him in Kazakh "Vinshnisky vro mogflogsnitz" or in English "The Kazakh Muggsy Bogues". Great video, Brother Vy.
