Some Geale fans defended it, but yeah - it was a bull**** opponent then for Geale and it's a bull**** opponent now for GGG. :yep

Golovkin's whole career has been one keep busy fight after another.

How is Golovkin the second best MW (He'll be the best if/when he beats Martinez)? His resume is terrible.

This would be like Mayweather or Bradley fighting Luis Carlos Abregu and Lee Purdy back to back.

I'm unimpressed, though Adama has the teak tough Ghanian credentials and is a solid enough gatekeeper level fighter.

Simple thing is though, this is just the kind of level opponent you would expect for Monte Carlo - if they've can set up Murray for the Mando they'd want it on HBO, as the bigger US name I suspect even Mora might price himself outta Monte Carlo without HBO to bankroll it. I woulda hoped for perhaps Mora, Lee or Rubio (though it probably ain't the smartest move for Lee given that he seems to have interest in Macklin and possibly a turn on the IBF merry-go-round.

I'm kinda perceiving this fight as a stay busy. The way I see it, it's better for him to fight the three (hopefully much better) US fights in 2014 + Adama than just the three US fights. I don't see any way in which having the extra fight harms his credentials and I don't think Adama would be considered a walk-through opponent for anyone else at MW - at the least GGG should pop Osumanus 'unstopped' cherry.

There's a tricky balance to be struck. If GGG weren't perceived as basically being a losing proposition, it would probably be possible to get some of the better prospects in with him through the lure of the belt for a reasonable purse. As it is HBO / K2 are essentially having to pay his opponents over the odds to balance the hit they'll likely take to their career. Unfortunately the GGG promo budget ain't unlimited - specially as they probably need to budget for a possible Maravilla fight later - and they simply can't afford to keep throwing 400k purses at Stevens level fighters.

    Still, bit disappointed.

    1. Extra fights don't harm credentials, this is true.

    2. Adama would be considered a walk through opponent for probably 20 MW's out there. It just might be assumed he would make it to the final bell against almost all of them, and that isn't the case against Golovkin.

That's the thing though, they are are actually doing almost 50 / 50 splits for some of his opponents just to get them in the ring. 400K was basically outta this world for Stevens and even good for a proven veteran like Macklin.

As things stand its entirely possible HBO is sinking more money into GGG than they recoup in increased subscription revenue from airing his fights.

If he could get Froch at 168, even immediately, it'd be worth moving up IMO even if it meant abandoning the 160 campaign, but I think that Froch has at least 3 much bigger fights right now and is unlikely to be interested 'til GGG is a considerably bigger name.

ya, and where are all the fighters complaining they didn't get this Feb fight? #14 with decent ko%, and has never been stopped including world title fight with Geale isn't ideal but it isn't a shameful stay-busy either. triple g has the skills, is getting the hype and likes to fight often. the big names will come. in the meantime, i like to see the man work. this fight doesn't bother me a bit. PATIENCE.

its an ok stay busy regular fight. but a SHAMEFUL world title fight. the guy is coming off a loss and then 2 wins vs guys who combined with 40 losses......ever heard of maybe earning a shot at even a paper title? this cheapens his already cheap belt fighting a guy like this :-(

:lol:Well OK, kinda top 15 perhaps - can't really argue that:good - I meant more that he's a tough guy to fight more than a tough guy to beat. Shades of Kassim the Dream in this one perhaps for GGG...though I expect Adama to succumb a lot quicker than Ouma to this version of Golovkin.

I honestly don't know why people have a problem with this fight. At the very least, he's a legit top 20 MW who can punch and take a punch. GGG could do a lot worse for a "stay busy" opponent.

i've seen much, much worse mismatched or boring title fights, even on ppv. Adama lacks elite skills but has a punch, a chin and is #14. plus, i doubt triple G is ducking anyone at 160.
