Gennady Golovkin training with Ryota Murata

They've sparred and there is a video...but it's not out there yet...

Over the past few days we've been reporting on the on-going training camp in the US that involves WBA Middleweight "super" champion Gennady Golovkin (29-0, 26) and WBC #13 ranked challenger Ryota Murata (4-0, 4). The camp, which is expected to last for another 8 or 9 days, saw the two world class fighters sparring for the first time on Thursday afternoon, US time.

Whilst details of the spar are somewhat limited we were informed of several things from the sessions. Firstly the session has been recorded to help both men see what they can improve. The video, at least for now, has not been made public though it's great to hear that the footage does exist.

From the few other details we've discovered we've heard the men were sparring 4 minute rounds with 30 second intervals. This, done at altitude at Big Bear in California, is certainly done under with emphasis on improving a fighters stamina and although it was very difficult for Murata it does seem to have helped made Golovkin into the fighter he is.

We also aware that Murata stated Golovkin's fist is "hard as stone" something that former Golovkin opponents have all had to feel when sharing the ring with him. Murata did however have some success of his own and will have learned so much from sharing the ring with Golovkin, arguably the uncrowned Middleweight kingpin.

Golovkin, preparing for his July 26th bout with Daniel Geale (30-2, 16) will likely have enjoyed the sparring sessions which will have helped him sharpen his tools ahead of his 11th title defence. For Murata however it's been his first real chance to share the ring with a world class Middleweight and help get into shape ahead of a specialised camp for his next bout, which is widely expected to be in Singapore in October.

Interesting to hear that Golovkin isn't the only world champion having interesting sparring, as Naoya Inoue is sparring with Japanese national champion Yohei Tobe (http://www.asianboxing.info/asian-news/naoya-inoue-and-yohei-tobe-spar)

Inoue and Tobe sparring together sounds pretty interesting but Murata and Golovkin needs that video to be leaked!

If Abel Sanchez is the only one with the tape, i doubt it gets leaked.

Golovkin should knock Geale out, then he has been working on a unification fight with Soliman. Cotto is afraid to fight him and so is Quillin..............
