Gennady Golovkin vs Dick Tiger

What could be considered a truth, however, is that, if "Tiger had to re-tread Golovkin's career", he'd never have faced and beaten other All-time Great Middleweights; won and defended the Light Heavyweight Championship or have been considered a perennial name in the mix of the Top-10 of Middleweights of All-Time.

 

No i am simply throwing forward a little fact that seems to have been widely avoided by the likes of yourself.

When i say there would only be one battle of the jabs it should be clear i am talking about VS Monzon and Hagler who both had noticeable to BIG reach advantages over GGG and also ATG jabs. ATG opponents with ATG jabs and solid reach advantages are almost certainly going to win any battle of the jabs. This is simply common sense.

If you think i was talking about Tiger's reach advantage leading to him having an advantage in the battle of the jabs then no.

Yeah you seem to think i was talking about Tiger winning the battle of the jabs - i wasn't. What GGG's extremely short reach enables Tiger however is the ability to reach him more easily than a Monzon or Hagler.

These guys are choppers compared to Tiger, (and more especially) Hagler and Monzon however. They are levels below and having an easy time against them means very little.

I mentioned reach as some of late have been running around making mountains out of short reach stats and the like.

I still think Tiger has a fair chance of outpointing GGG in a hard competitive fight.

 

And yet ... one has defended his world MW title 20 times with a ridiculous KO % and is undefeated ... and the other didn't.

I was just going to point out that Jones Junior would destroy Tiger, but then left it because it seemed irrelevant to this discussion.

 

Nothing wrong to root for Tiger. He was a very exciting fighter to watch.

 

GGG is still fighting and his career has not matured into a context. Give it 10 years after he has retired and then we can judge him a bit better as to where he stands, exactly.

 

I thought you might have taken it the other way. I wasn't 100% clear and one could certainly read it two ways.

 

Golovkin wasnt fighting Giardello ,Fullmer ,Carter ,Fernandez,Torres,Benvenuti,Archer, Foster,Webb,Hank,and Griffith.

 

I'm still amused that you denigrated Rodrigo Valdez as being small at 5' 9.5"with a 69" reach,because it suited your agenda of disparaging Monzon,yet Golovkin is only an inch taller and has only one more inch in reach at 70".lol!

 

I'd be fine with that, if it worked both ways.

Alas, it seems Golovkin supporters on the forum want to force the matter and already place Gennady into the Top-15 Middleweights of All-Time and declare him the winner over just about any other Middleweight Great in history.

So, for mine, it's unlikely he's fighting anyone on the same level as Tiger did, before Golovkin hangs 'em up. I doubt also he's going north to try and capture a Light Heavyweight Title, any time soon.

10 years isn't going to make his ledger look any better. The manner of victory in the Alvarez rematch, will help, and there are a few other bouts, which might add to it a little, but it won't compare to Tiger's career; of that I feel certain.

 

I feel that he is. On the other hand MW is insanely deep and I can see how the matter is debatable. That's what we're doing here

I think he'd be competitive with virtually all the greats. I'm not convinced he'd beat them all. Hagler, Monzon and RJJ in particular seem to be problematic. I haven't really sat down and studied the footage systematically either.

Level is established in retrospect, very often. If GGG retired today, and Jacobs went on to unify the division and rule it for 7-8 defences, his level at that point would be enhanced compared to right now.

People seem to forget in these H2H comparisons that due to weigh in times, that a rehydrated GGG is a big SMW/LHW and that some of the guys he has fought rehydrate to cruiser. Give Tiger an extra day to rehydrate and he might even make 154.

We disagree. That's ok.

 

People would give Golovkin endless **** for fighting some of those guys today.

 

Why is that? They are as good and imo better than what he has fought . Giardello,Tiger ,Fullmer,Griffith,,Benvenuti, Torres were all top 20 and Foster top4all time at lhvy.
How many of Golovkin's opponents are top twenty all time?
