as sad as it is this will be GGG's best opponent. There's far better fights for him to take- coming from big Ishe fan.

Ishe Smith will pose some problems for Golovkin. It won't be a Proksa style destruction imo.

Like what, with everybody ducking? (OK, maybe not everybody - but Sturm and HNN at least...and obviously Martinez & Chavez are tied up in a rematch next...and it's whispered that neither Geale nor Pirog want any part of GGG either...)

    :good

As much as Proksa is the more talented athletic specimen than Smith, in terms of actual practical, useful skills to employ against a monster like Golovkin, I'll put more stock in Smith's sensible application of fundamentals over Proksa's random herky jerky movement, reflex-based defense, and chucking triangle-armed overhands as a means to not get flattened.

    absolute **** fight

Ishe Smith isnt even ranked as a 154 pound guy (well #36 actually)

    he has
    This content is protected
    wins in the last
    This content is protected
    years against

a guy who had lost 4 in a row
a guy who had lost 3 out of 4
a guy who had lost 5 out of 6

it would be a head scratcher if he somehow got a crack at 154 pound title. but to somehow be in line for a fight at a middleweight title? :rofl

is GGG trying to be the new Sturm?

    amazing...yet pathetic

after GGG big win over proska...the chatter was...WHATS NEXT FOR GGG?? Sergio? Geale? Chavez? Sturm? Pirog? N'Jikam? Macklin? opponents at 168? no..no....you are getting warm.... a guy thats not even in the middleweight division who also is mainly an inactive jr middleweight who is 3-2 in the last 3 years. :good :-(

Delivered in style as usual

Be that as it may, I was a bit surprised at all the warm words for Ishe in this thread. GO GGG!

yeah i dont get how a true boxing fan gives a champion with as much talent as GGG has a pass on a garbage fight like this. i think most people on these boards are used to mediocre match ups and just happy to see an active fighter in the ring and dont care who the opponent is

You may feel it's garbage - and sure, you make a valid point that based on recent accomplishment Smith's dues are barely paid as a contender at 154, let alone 160 - but the fact is (and take this as you will) it's either the best or 2nd best opponent Golovkin will have ever faced in a world title bout, at the time he met them.

Can you dispute any of this:

I thought Geale gets stripped of a title if he doesn't fight GGG. Am I mistaken?

Believe a fight needs to be signed by December 31st, not necessarily fought before then.

    You are correct. :nod

Golovkin vs. Smith will take place a few weeks before Geale's deadline to sign.

How funny would it be if Geale is let off the hook, relieved of the burden of making a decision by Smith scoring some fluke upset (DQ? TD5?) :rofl

Well that would ****ing suck. It would be a serious step back at this point i was hoping with his belts and HBO exposure they could at least secure a legit contender like Murray or Macklin at the very least.
