Smith is a JMW with little power, average speed, and low output. His name and status is primarily based off a tv show which ended nearly a decade ago. Just because Golovkin had been reduced to fighting very limited opposition in the past doesn't mean he need do so anymore. As a friend/fan of Ishe, I wouldn't think you'd wish an Ouma like beating on him for what would be little money.

I've said a few times now - in this very thread actually, and on Shay's FB page - that I'm not really crazy about this match being made. It was, however. (it seems)

It is what it is. Smith will put in an honest effort but probably to no avail. It will be a moral victory if he manages not to get knocked out. The only real upside for him is getting paid. (and he'd have been paid more in his eventual world title bout opportunity if he'd jacked up his value by taking a zero from someone like Omar Henry)

For Golovkin, yeah, the only upside is he beat a guy whose notoriety stems primarily from a reality TV show. Diehard fans won't think he climbed Mt. Everest or anything...but it will stand as the 2nd best victory of his career and if he knocks Smith plug out it's a pretty significant deed.

At least Smith - unlike the real top middleweights - is willing to fight Golovkin.

so entering his 7th World Title Bout, he fights someone not in his division, so an NON RANKED middleweight, with 3 wins in 3 years who currently is ranked #36 as a JUNIOR middleweight

so if this constitutes "decent fight", what do you consider a **** fight?

cant believe the boxing logic on these boards :patsch

heres an idea, fight a middleweight if the excuse for the above mentioned is gonna be used. hell even a top 30 middleweight, but a junior middle whos claim to fame is the usba welterweight title? give me a break. **** fight. stay busy against guys your size and that are relevant

Smith isn't in the same class. Might be able to take a round or two, but Golovkin hurts him badly. Smith could totally be a spoiler against a guy like N'Dam, but Golovkin is technically solid in addition to being talented.

The good thing about this fight is that GGG is staying active which for me is key for the avoided fighters careers. It's a lot better to fight often and put pressure on the people that duck you.

There is a "whole lotta" glass is half empty in this thread.

Ishe Smith is fine for an opponent. Golovkin's team cannot make fighters face him that have no interest in doing so at the time. The only conceivable option that would have been better was Macklin and for all I know they told Golovkin's team to take a hike.

Just easier to complain, I guess...

Dangerous fight to take for Golovkin, much respect for actually having the balls to fight a good but not very well known fighter. Ishe is no joke, and I could see him taking a points win here, very interesting match-up, I will really be looking forward to this one. The definition for high-risk, low reward fight for GGG, while Ishe has much to gain without a whole lot to lose. Again, much respect to GGG, and Smith for stepping up.

Smith being with mayweather promotions will give GGG more exposure...
Plus I like how smith uses his shoulder roll..so I want to see how ggg isolates it.
