Assuming Kovalev could afford to lose 5 pounds of water weight and hydrate with no problems, based on their skills, and based on their performances against their highest level opponents, who wins?

It's almost impossible to predict this scenario as we have never seen GGG at 170lbs. GGG is not scared to block punches with his face but I can bet you he would be showing his defensive skills vs Kovalev.

    Kov can't make no 170
We would have to see GGG at 168 before we even start talking about 175

Kovalev making 170 is a stretch, especially in 2018.

I'd take GGG I think he would look better at 168, I think that is his natural weight class an extra 2lbs will just give him a bit more strength and Kovalev will be the Walking dead.

GGG ko inside the first 6 rounds, I don't see any other outcome

Draining yourself by 5lbs is not a good idea against a ruthless body puncher like GGG.

Kovalev by very early KO. Golovkin is already past prime and struggling with average welterweights. He'll be 36 then, completely in grandfather mode

It def would be worth watching! Whether you like GGG or not, you have to respect what he is about! All the bs aside of money, politics, his ring presence is awesome. He is there to knock you out!

Almost like going back in time to Tyson in the late 80's, except GGG's skill set is a little more rounded (mentally and physically).

Kovalev can't make 170 without being woefully drained, so I'd pick GGG. No chance Kovalev does this though.

At 175 lb my money is on Kovalev by KO.

Why @170? Sanchez said GGG would beat everyone from 154 thru 175, so make it at LHW*

    *he loses btw...

Kovalev would whoop him! I'd watch it, but I know if things ever got rough on Kovalev he would have a plan B which would be to box GGG, where as I don't think we've ever seen GGG be able to do those things. Kovalev showed Saturday night he does have some skills.

No way Kovalev could make 170, or if he did he'd be risking an Oscar vs pac type scenario.

But for sake of your argument IF he could you'd have to hugely favour the huge puncher who is 2 weight classes higher. especially when GGG is a come forward aggressive fighter himself
