Lemieux Murray and Geale are all equal or better than the guys Hearns beat at MW. Why you keep mentioning Hill? Yes it's a great win but it's also 100% irrelevant. They fought at 175 and Hill is the polar opposite style. Styles make fights and GGG is pretty much the worst possible style for Hearns: Elite Chin Elite Power Elite Finisher
This is where I differ. Chin, never tested to say it was elite. Hagler's was tested against Hearns and Mugabi and guys who were much deeper in power and competition than the guys GGG fought. Power? He hit Canelo with punches and he didn't go down. And his head movement is not good. Do you really think Hearns would not hit GGG often and hard? Hagler's style was a fightplan. Come in and put his head down and swing and keep the fight close. Remember GGG is orthodox. I don't see how Hearns would not hit GGG clean, and it wouldn't be GGG just shaking it off. He would be affected and swollen and hurt. That is my opinion. When a guy was easy to hit Hearns always seemed to win easily. Surprisingly Hearns had a little trouble hitting Barkley with the right in the first fight, but his jab and left hand worked well, which is why he went down to the body.
Canelo, Jacob's and Lemieux all have better power than Mugabi LMAO and are much better overall offensive fighters. GGG's chin is beyond reproach he has never been down as a pro or amateur. His power is also beyond reproach. He had a 24 fight KO streak his power is also beyond reproach. His chin and power are both proven through extreme consistency which is just as valuable as a small sample vs a few top guys. And Hearns had no trouble hitting Leonard but couldn't keep Leonard from making it a brawl And yeah GGG might not just walk through Hearns fire power but he will survive and when he fires back Hearns won't survive.
Champions, many of them. Reality is, by the time Hearns was as old as GGG was when he fought Jacobs and Canelo, he had lost 4 times and was labouring to UD wins over 20-14-2 Earl Butler and nobodies like Freddie Delgado. But let's not think about that. Your Opinion ^ Agree Your Opinion ^ Golovkin has been at a reach disadvantage his whole career. *shrug* 400 amateur bouts say you are wrong. Except for that Golovkin has an iron constitution compared to Hearns, he's busier, has an excellent defence and is arguably the MW with the most defences in history. Golovkin threw 874 punches vs Canelo in the rematch and 615 against Jacobs. That's plenty aggressive enough. I love how people write GGG off as a mindless brawler, and then, when it suits them, "he's not really aggressive". He never fought them and he never fought Canelo or Jacobs either. He did, however, crumble to other tough fighters that he fought, like Barkley, when he couldn't get them out of there and they kept firing back. He has "proven" no such thing. You definitely underrate him.
He lost to Hagler, Leonard and Barkley so I wouldn't include them in his resume. But he had som nice wins at MW, no doubt. I just feel that he was vulnerable to punchers and GGG has a punch and a lot more. That's why he would be too much for Hearns imo.
But Golovkin is not easy to hit. Don't be fooled by when he sticks his chin out and lets featherfists tee off on him. His defence is excellent even against explosive punchers. Take a look: This content is protected
I think that's what this thread boils down to. Wether or not Golovkin's chin can hold out long enough for him to stop Hearns. I think most agree either Tommy outboxes him or it eventually becomes a slug fest (which would favor Golovkin at close range). Some are already convinced we've seen enough of Golovkin to know his chin would allow him to outlast Hearns. Others believe we simply haven't seen enough evidence he'd be able to survive a barrage of bombs from Hearns. Me personally i think his chin is good enough but his mind isn't. If he shied away from slugging it with canelo and Lemiux i don't think he'd be willing to mix it up with Hearns. Which means if he cant outbox or outjab him, he goes into a defensive shell and loses a decision, similar to Lennox vs Tua. That's what im going with until I see Golovkin grit his teeth and walk through bombs to KO a genuine middleweight puncher because we have simply never seen him do it outside of him bullying the feather fisted Willie Monroe and the much smaller Kell Brook.
Herol is a professional GGG hater. Any opportunity he gets. But he thinks he's being clever when he says "Golovkin has just beaten bums his whole career, but I am sure he will get 3-4 ATG wins in the next year to prove he is great."
He threw This content is protected punches at Canelo in the rematch and was landing on him in combination. What more do you really want? Golovkin is not a mindless brawler. He has always taken, wherever possible, the most intelligent route to victory. Lemieux has sickening power. When Golovkin realised early on that Lemmy had no answer to his jab, why on god's green earth would he brawl with him? He took Lemieux apart like a watch and knocked his ass out. But yeah, proof that Hearns beats him. I can point you to guys knocking Hearns out, but there's no instance that you can point me to of GGG ever just curling up and letting guys pound on him. Have a try. If this guy can give hell to Hearns, then for sure GGG can too: http://boxrec.com/en/boxer/637 PS notice the reach of Kinchen. The fight: http://www.boxing.com/james_kinchen_vs_thomas_hearns.html
Hearns got carried away with the effect his body shots were having on Barkley. He fought stupid and reckless for a moment was was caught. Legit loss. But Golovkin is way too cautious to go near Hearns knowing what type of power he packs. He won't trade punches. He shells up and waits for his turn to attack. Its observable from the 24 rounds he fought against Canelo. Look how wary he was of Canelo's body shots. Look how much time he spent hunched up in a 'sitting -on -the -toilet' like position so Canelo couldn't get any body shots in. https://www.hbo.com/content/dam/hbo...r_content/renditions/cq5dam.web.1200.675.jpeg Having a you're turn/ my turn style of fighting is the worst approach to take against Tommy Hearns. I see GGG being punched into a shell all night. Kinda like how he was in the Canelo rematch. Note how Canelo is half the size of Hearns , with a smaller reach and half the power. Also note how GGG ducked Andrande. These aren't opinions , they're observable truths.
I never said he didnt let his hands go. I said he didnt want to slug it out. Do you know what that even means? Where on God's green Earth did i write in my post that jabbing lemiux's head off was dumb or a poor decision? You're responding to points I never made. The point is Golivkin never did what Hagler did and proved he could outslug a guy with power like Hearns. He is NOT going to outbox Hearns so that would be his only option. 1 punch isnt enough, you have to be beat Hearns down and make him submit. I dont need to try i never made that claim in the first place. What i said was if golovkin shies away from brawling (which he likely would given his history), he'd desperately try to outjab hearns like he did in the 2nd canelo fight and lose pretty convincingly. Kitchen and golovkin didnt fight similar at all and he was a super middleweight. First of all he LOST. Hearns pieced him up all night landing at will and he had no answer for the jab. Unless you take Hearns' jab away you arent going to win, period. Second, he gave hearns hell because he applied non stop pressure. Hearns liked fighting on the outside and using his reach. Kinchen took him out of his comfort zone by moving forward, applying volume and attacking the body, being willing to trade, time a bomb, catch and pitch, etc. Could golovkin do it? Sure. He's a better boxer than kinchen and has good power and a good chin. Would he be WILLING to walk through those devastating blows of hearns to land some of his own once he realizes he cant outbox him? I doubt it.
I know what that means and you are wrong. You said: "If he shied away from slugging it with canelo and Lemiux i don't think he'd be willing to mix it up with Hearns." My point: he didn't have to slug with Lemieux. It would have been a stupid decision. 1) I believe that he could outbox Hearns 2) Even if he could not, he'd land enough in return to crumble Hearns. Why? Because GGG can take it and Hearns cannot. Golovkin is actually a LHW (just) on fight night. Hearns used the same day weigh in. FYI. Jacobs, who everybody seems to think is fragile, weighed in at over 180 against GGG. First of all Kinchen is a decent but nowhere near top tier fighter, and he was landing on Hearns with ease. He's got a decent KO % but nowhere near Golovkin. If Kinchen could land without problems on Hearns, then believe me that GGG would do so too, with more power. Secondly, Kinchen took Hearns' power without too many problems. He's been KO'd 4 times. GGG has never even been off his feet. Take it to the bank that Golovkin's chin is better than Kinchen's. Yeah, about that: ""He's definitely the biggest hitter I've been in with. Definitely. ... It was like a thud. He definitely hits hard. It wasn't just that. You could kinda see where some of them were coming and ride them, especially that left hook to the body. But it wasn't just the power, it was the pressure. It was a combination of both" https://www.badlefthook.com/2015/2/...thudding-power-cant-remember-second-knockdown This content is protected Your brawl: This content is protected
Golovkin demanded a "mexican style" brawl. Canelo met him in the center of the ring and said bring it. Golovkin's face changed and instead of going in, he popped that jab all night. Maybe try watching the fight next time? Again, no one is saying he was gunshy, he threw a lot of punches. But he refused to do what he said he was going to do in either fight. There was no goddamn "Mexican style" and you yourself said golovkin isnt that kind of fighter so WHY are you backpedaling now? This content is protected If they go at a catch and pitch you-hit-me I-hit-you pace, you do realize hearns will land first every single time right? You do realize golovkins face would be swelling up pretty bad at that pace as it has done in several of his fights? He might get TKO'd before Hearns gets flattened. So golovkin is a weight bully? Whose "everybody"? I never said jacobs is fragile. Golovkin doesnt fight like kinchen at all. I can use your own words to prove this! Lmao. Kinchen was never KO'd. A ko is when tbe ref counts to 10 and you cant get up. He was stopped 4x and 3 of those occasions were when he fought as a light heavyweight. Martin Murray is comparable to hearns now? We saw golovkin apply pressure on bums like dominic wade or feather fisted Monroe. Where was all this pressure when he fought big guys who could actually hit him back? Exactly my point. Now we're using sparring stories with no footage as evidence...? Make up your mind, is golovkin a smart boxer who just happens to hit hard, or is he a crazy non stop volume punching slugger? [/QUOTE] Yawn.
The Hearns one would use at 160 for dream fights would be the one that went hell for leather with Hagler. Hearns was never quite the same again whilst against Hagler he was a man brim full of confidence and with only one loss behind him. Holding up a Hearns bout (non middleweight at that) when it was well known he was fading or worse is irrelevant to the discussion. Barkley beat him the very fight before.
