True, Karmazin and Sylvester are probably better than any opponents Golovkin has on his unbeaten cv ( though beaing Dirrell at the 04 olympics and knocking Bute out albeit in the amateurs is noting to be sniffed at ) Golovkin is in a long running promotional dispute with Universum and trying to get out of it. The reason he has fought exclusively in Panama and Kazakhstan for well over a year and a half is that Universum have threatened to sue any fighter and their promoter if they fight Golovkin in mainland europe. Its expected to be resolved finally in the courts over the summer.

BOXA were eyeing Ishida off as a soft target Choc might be able to win a title from a little while back - but he dropped his interim WBA title to Alvarez.

Ishida has since bounced back with his surprise 1st round stoppage of Kirkland:

Kali Meehan is a Don King fighter - fought here against 'Dancing Man' Quinn late last year.

Don King didn't bother coming for that fight? Why would he bother coming out with Spinks?

Corey is still best known for being the son of Leon Spinks who beat Ali - he's certainly no household name in Australia other than perhaps for his famous surname.

Look Jet now I dont know **** about boxing history however I do remember something about that name Spinks.......I wonder if you know anything about that famous boxing surname :think

For this promotion to work you need to pay 3 purses for the 1 fight.....1 to Spinks, 1 to Geale and 1 to Don King....thats right you pay Don King to attend the fight here and do the publicity rounds

Let me pitch it to you....Spinks has a famous name because his dad beat Ali, Don King is the most recognized boxing promoter in the World.....the media will jump on Spinks as credible opponent also being rated # 3 IBF and Don King attending press conferences for the week that will get the countries main stream media attention due to him being down under :deal

The fight will attract lots of general media therefore it will sell lots more PPV here

Now with all the media here they could do IMO 70,000 PPV pack out a venue plus maybe 30,000 PPV in the states

The fight stacks nicely with these numbers....and no I dont think they need 1 million homes....I was talking AUST huge...not world huge

Lots of people claiming Geale doesn't have enough to beat Golovkin. :huh

I'd like someone to point out which opponent of Golvkins was in the same league as Geale.

Apart from Bute and Dirrel in the AM's, back in 03' and 04', which was a long time ago, there's nothing special on Golvkins pro resume to say he would beat Geale.

Quite the contrary, There's enough worthy opponents on Geales resume to say he would handle Golovkin.

Don King coming to Australia to promote a fight....I doubt he would even bother to get on skype for less than 250K.
I guessing Mr King would have more pressing matters like fluffing his hair or polishing his teeth.

imo i think geale should have an easier mandatory or title defense before taking on golovkin, no he hasnt got the same calibre on his resume as daniel, but hes an extremely under rated boxer with heavy heavy hands, big risk little reward at the moment

WORLD boxing champion Daniel Geale has been amused by the constant taunts from Anthony Mundine and sees no real benefit in a rematch with The Man.

"A lot of people would like to see me give it to him again," said Geale, a noted spectator at Wests Tigers training yesterday.

"Our first fight [awarded to Mundine on points] there was a lot of controversy, it would be good
to rectify that, but he hasn't been doing a lot for a while and doesn't deserve the right for another fight.

"He didn't want any part in it when a re-match was ordered, it's been two years since then, I've now won the title and straight away he's in the media trying to pump up a re-match. It's sort of funny and you can laugh about it."

Geale said Felix Sturm was one fighter on the radar. "The Real Deal" Geale was handed a Tigers jumper yesterday and will be at Campbelltown Stadium for Saturday's clash with Penrith.

i agree. he has the belt now so he can pick and choose... i am sure his management will spend the next 18mths-2yrs p[icking smart, winnable fights against worthy opponents and make as much cash as possible...then i see them looking down the unification route... there is no rush and its definitley not the way to go for 1st defense

Looking through the list of names in the IBF top 15...(Not including aussies choc and Soloman) Spinks is the biggest name IMO for a fight down here....if a fight down under with Spinks cant be promoted then how the hell do they make any other fight in the top 15 work :huh

I'm not singling you out, just using your post as an example of what appears to be a general opinion among some posters.

Considering Golovkin has nothing big on his resume, it is difficult to judge how good he really is. The same fighter can be made to look good and bad with different opponents.
It's possible that Golovkin is being overrated here because of poor opposition too.

Personally, I think he's good fighter, but Geale would handle him.

This line of thought intrigues me, Mandy has been hammered because of the soft touch's he fights, yet when someone who is on top of his game (Geale) wants to fight the big fights, it is said he shouldn't because of the risk, and that he should take softer fights initially.

I do see the point many of you are trying to make, however I also see it as double standards to a degree.
