Now, with 3G, yeah. it's a little more complicated (Hence my gentle pushing of the topic ) with the super and interim world titles available.

But it all goes back to my original point, what is the criteria for this title defense streak? It's clearly rather inconsistent.

 

Hopkins defended a real title. GGG defended half of one until he got the other half 11 fights later.

He has made 6 defences so far of the same WBA belt Hopkins held. Understand?

We've established that being a mere title holder counts the same for defenses as being the full fledged Champion. And that doesn't sound dubious to you? Or a little on the inconsistent side?

If someone defends an IBO belt 30 times, that would count wouldn't it? If Hopkins IBF defenses counted towards his total number, including when he was the actual World champion at MW.

Rules have to be applied evenly for them to carry any weight.

IBO is unrecognised. They count for nothing until they are recognised, and thenceforth that point they are counted.

What's the alternative, accepting some odd rule that equates a string of abc title defenses as the same as title defenses by the one World champ of the division?

Until I see it applied on a consistent basis, at the very least, with applied criteria, this will always be a dubious record, much like the "49-0" record that people think means something.
