Nobody, who has actually watched a lot of Hopkins of the 1990's, will claim he's one-dimensional.

Nobody, who has actually watched any of Hopkins opposition in the '90s can claim they had a pulse. Therefore, I have only seen a one-dimensional fighter.

Regardless of level of opposition (which is debatable, whether Monzon's or Hagler's defeated opposition was much better or any better at all), they provided different styles and different strategies/tactics in their fights with Hopkins. He proved he could deal with pretty much any one of them (except for fight with Jones). He showed he could fight at different styles himself, sometimes switching his tactics during the course of the bout, shifting the balance from defense to offense or vice versa, from back-foot counter-puncher to a front-foot swarmer/slugger or an inside-fighting mauler.

He should have saved some of that amazing versatility for the Taylor fights (LOL). Guys, you see things diferently than I. So let's just agree to disagree.

The same way Sugar Ray should have saved it for someone like Denny Moyer (Robinson was also 40 years old at that time)? Pathetic argument.

Benton would've won. Hops' had craftiness because his opponents did (and continue) to not have any. His tricks and science were ten a penny in Benton's era

In Benton's era he would've got on as well as Benton in the mix IMO, probably a bit better as he'd have been less avoided I imagine. Benton takes this.

You can't compare Hopkins era with Benton's. Hopkins would have done well to get in the top 10 back then. The way he acted up in the 2nd Jones fight and didn't even think about continuing in the Dawson fight, I doubt he'd be able to tough it out in that era. The slick Benton takes a decisive verdict.

Hopkins edges it. Benton is oft underrated and this would be some awesome old school stuff.

i thought Bernard won the 1st Taylor fight & drew the rematch, he only had himself to blame for not wining rematch as he ****ed around to much.

I reckon it would be an ace contest myself. Certainly a cleaner tactical contest than Hop-Calzaghe. Hopkins' accuracy Vs Bentons defence. Hopkins' trying to spoil and work on the inside as Mims did in his 2nd encounter with Benton and Benton looking to put his speed on B-Hop and follow up his attack to stunt Hopkins' ring generalship.

    Wouldn't be Starling-Breland II that's for sure.

The difference is Hopkins has to work on being "old school", Benton and co did it naturally, far too slick for any of the recent middles.
