George Benton, a fighter with truly world class skills, who scored some top wins but somehow never got a title shot at his peak.

How does this brilliant boxer from 50-60s do against the GGG, Charlo, Jackobs, Canelo, Smith, Plant, Andrade etc?

Loses to all of them, he looked good and had a modern style, but failed at the top level

He loses to Golovkin, that I’m fairly sure of. He matches up pretty well with Canelo. Close fight either way on any neutral card.

Of the rest, I’ve seen Jacobs and Plant. Jacobs has become a solid fighter over the years on top of being quite a bit larger, so I figure he’d hold the edge. I don’t see Plant being good enough, regardless of any size advantage.

I think he beats all of them to be honest. G style wise gives him the most trouble. Prime G befor Sanchez messed with his style too much was an incredible fighter. That one could be closer to 50/50 come to think of it a little deeper

I still recall when Benton became a forum darling. Even a guy like Flea was calling him an ATG.

Benton had no amateur career, he would not have been able to deal with the southpawness of Andrade, Benton didn’t beat anyone as good as Andrade or even Plant so why would he beat them?
    He was a contender

Definitely no ATG, but way better than a Demetrius Andrade.

    1) He wasn’t washed. He didn’t even win the title until over a year later. His infamous title defense against Hurricane Carter didn’t come for over two more years.

    2) Seriously? Giardello is in the running for an all time top 100 pound for pound placement, in my opinion. I don’t know if you can name 5 Middleweights in history who faced tougher competition. Certainly not 10.

A contender from an era beats the best P4P at the moment? Hell no
