Is Mr. Benton still training fighters today? Probably not, I haven't heard anything from him in years. What is he up to these days?
Probably wasn't the best place to put this thread in fairness. Posting it in the general forum would of got you a much better response, or the classic forum.
Yeah, I know. I just don't know which to post it in. I hear the mods are getting touchy these days, and I was recently banned for a misunderstanding, so I don't want to get banned again. Thanks for the concern though.
About a year or so ago I heard George was living in Philly and going to the gym two or three days a week to work with kids.He is the most under rated trainer of all times .I worked with George for many years and can tell you he is the best inside-out trainer in boxings history.George has no ego .He is a wonderful person as well....God bless.....kenny weldon
One of the best trainers ever... Holyfield, Whitaker, Taylor... nuff said! I heard he's been suffering from Alzheimer's for quite a while.
Mr. Weldon, it is an honor to have you grace this thread with your presence. I agree, he is extremely under rated. His work with Holyfield was remarkable. The combo of Lou Duva and George Benton was a match made in heaven. Those two could do anything with a fighter.
Mr Benton was interviewed as part of a Joe Frazier documentary aired on UK television earlier this week about the Manila fight with Ali. He seemed lucid and engaging however I did notice a hand-written note/sign on an oven in the background which would suggest he has to leave notes around to remind himself about turning things off, etc. so this may be due to alzheimers though I can't confirm this. He was a great interview however. Pure class.
