Considering he was supposed to die fighting George Foreman, it's good that he is STILL ALIVE.

Sad. He died on his birthday too.

    May his family find peace.

Up until a few years ago he seemed very alert, spoke well and had all his bearings about it.

Then he got sent into a care home and it went downhill

He won the Canadian heavyweight title five times.

I'm surprised he never challenged Cooper for the Empire title as it was called back then.

I think Chuvalo would have a good chance of beating him.

So sadly it is true? That's a real shame I have a soft spot for iron-jawed warriors and Chuvalo was the poster boy for iron jaws

I remember watching this excellent interview of his many years ago. I think he was like 70-71 y/o here but he was still remarkably lucid, articulate and engaging considering the amount of punishment he took throughout his career. Had to endure way more than his fair share of tragedy in his personal life too

Fitting that another iron-jawed Croatian became the first Croatian HW champ a couple of weeks ago

    RIP, champ
