Quarry was a much faster starter and a much sharper counterpuncher than Chuvalo. I cannot find a single early KO/stoppage against a decent fighter that Chuvalo ever registered. It’s a stretch to say he might do it here. In fact, the best punchers he faced (Foreman and Frazier) stopped him early (albeit on his feet). That’s not to say Earnie would. I figure Chuvalo would probably win by late stoppage against a tiring Shavers or a decision, but there’s nothing in his record that suggests he would stop Shavers in one. In fact, Quarry is his only loss in the early rounds in 89 fights — unless you want to count a never-should-have-happened 1995 comeback attempt.
Yeah it’s far more likely that Shavers falls a bit later against Chuvalo. Might actually be a good fight in the early rounds with both of them trading
I wasn't insinuating that Chuvalo was a faster starter, I just meant that he was generally more aggressive than Quarry. Chuvalo does have a few decent early wins, like Manuel Ramos (5), but you're right his best wins were over Yvon Durelle (KO 12), Mike DeJohn (MD 10), Doug Jones (TKO 11), Jerry Quarry (KO 7), and Cleveland Williams (UD 10). Chuvalo was quite a hell-cat in the later rounds.
Moore was knocked out by three heavyweights - Marciano, Patterson and Ali. All of these losses were past his prime. When did he prove that he had poor chin at heavyweight exactly? Size is also irrelevant argument here, because Moore fought many fighters over 200 lbs.
