YESSSS 3,999 minutes (considering all the 1 minute round breaks) is 2.777 days!

Of course I must be more diligent, all of Human History has been Building to the Moments we analyze & speculate on trivial matters related to fisticuff history. :icon_writing:

I was referring to the first fight, where Chuvalo won only 3 of 15 rounds.
In the second 4 of 12 is better, & sure it could be competitive even if a fighter loses most all or all rounds.

But besides this is FAR from Chuvalo winning "numerous" rounds-even in both fights combined-did you think that the second fight was close enough for anybody to argue Chuvalo won?
I have been skeptical that sportswriters told him that as the "best I faced" article claims.

I have not seen the whole 2nd fight, but a Google search described it as less compelling than the grueling original meeting.
But also as MORE lopsided, with Ali landing numerous clear shots & dominating the action.

I dunno if your assessment is closer to the truth, yet I would be very surprised if knowledgeable & unbiased sports fans thought Chuvalo won!

I've clearly stated twice exactly what I said.

"Ali won handily on points but Chuvalo won his fair share of rounds and stayed competitive"

I never stated once that any of the fights were close on points.

As for the 2nd fight Ali did less clowning and took Chuvalo more seriously in the early rounds compared to their 1st meeting.

But I believe Chuvalo had a stronger 2nd half in their rematch compared to their 1st meeting.

Hence I think Chuvalo won between 3 or 4 rounds objectively.

But no obviously there's no debate on who won the fight and I never suggested there was.

The second Ali-Chuvalo was quite a good un’ and perhaps underrated these days? - I’m not sure.

Pure speculation but perhaps because a very young Foreman had already stopped an older Chuvalo, Ali might’ve thought he had a shot of doing same - perhaps similar to Ali’s mindset going into the rubber vs Frazier when Ali was clearly gunning for Joe in the first 4 rounds or so.

In the Chuvalo rematch, Ali’s punching appeared even more purposeful and anchored though his punching in the first fight, weighing 214 1/2 lbs might be also be a bit underrated.

Suffice to say, Chuvalo wasn’t exactly the best guy by which to measure an opponents punching power.

That fight also allowed the same pre exile and post exile opponent to give testimony for the sake of comparing the “two” Ali’s.

Chuvalo stated that Ali had clearly lost a step or two since they last fight.

I think that testimony was borne out by the fact that the rematch was that bit closer and more competitive than fight 1.

Though the commentators for the rematch did note that it appeared that Chuvalo had learned how to jab between fights 1 and
    2. Lol.

    [/QUOTE] from DYNAMIC PUNCHER...

I recall you said Chuvalo won 4 rounds before, now 3 or 4-in the second fight.
If I am mistaken that you thought they were "competitive" I will admit it & apologize.
But that word is in fairness to us both ambiguous.
Some use it as anything short of a total blowout.
I think it should be either close on points; OR you could argue if the vast majority of rounds are very close, then even if it is not close on points it can be "competitive".

OK, by a relatively generous definition.
And I will do a mea culpa if I am wrong that you said Chuvalo won "numerous" rounds.
Of course that is impossible because the phrase means "too many to count".
So even Ali winning every rounds would not be "numerous" lol!

But at least the man who won at least 20 of 27 rounds could be given that term in the spirit of "numerous", but of course it is literally totally incorrect.

By the way, in that estimation, I am using your own count of "3 or 4 rounds" for Chuvalo in the 2nd fight, & am assuming you agree that CHuval won only 3 of 15 max for the 2nd fight.

Yeah you could tell Ali meant business in the rematch. And did less clowning compared to their 1st meeting where Ali willingly allowed Chuvalo to hit him in the body early on.

I think Ali was looking to stop Chuvalo and make a statement but again as we know Chuvalo is just granite.

I did actually enjoy their 2nd meeting more than their 1st fight.

I feel Chuvalo won his fair share of rounds and remained competitive.

But I've stated neither fight was particularly close and Ali won both fights handily on points.

I've said this 3 times now I don't understand why i have to keep going over it.

This is my last reply to this I can't make it any clearer about my opinion/position on both fights.

So I'm seeing myself out of this topic/discussion now.

I think it is round 5 of the rematch where, if I recall, Ali has George in a corner and snaps his head back with some wicked shots.

A lesser chin doesn't recover as quickly as Chuvalo did.

This poll is very close: but who is the Heretic who Dared to predict any stoppage win?!?
Maybe if one guy got a hold of one of these. :rosstheboss
Even then it could go to the cards.

Let's see if we can possibly milk this thread to the same # of rounds we think this would go if...victory required at least a knock down!
So let's be realistic here...high triple digits?
