High KO rate, one of the earlier boxers to train with weights, knocked out Jerry Quarry... How big is Chuvalo's punch?
I started a thread on this same thing a couple years ago. I think George Chuvalo is underrated as a puncher. Haven’t checked his record in a while but I believe he won 64 of his 73 victories by KO.
Yeah, I was really surprised when I looked back at Quarry’s record and saw the loss to Chuvalo. I've looked at that page on Boxrec so many times and I swear that I've never saw it before in my life- We also gotta keep in mind that this is the same Quarry who took Shavers and Lyle's shots.

He was a solid puncher (especially to the body), but not quite as explosive as his KO% might suggest. His record is heavily padded w/ stoppages of unheralded/undistinguished Canadian clubfighters. Perpetually chinny Patterson & post-gunshot Cleveland Williams were both able to stand in w/ him & endure his punches over the distance.
Makes more sense. I went back to look at the Quarry stoppage and I think Jerry just wasn't paying attention to the count, but being good enough to drop Quarry is still a nice feat.
Chuvalo must’ve told that “Dancing with the wife after the fight” story a million times, lol. Judging by George’s “dancing” in the ring, it might not have been as impressive as it sounds. Fair to say Chuvalo’s battered features would’ve caught more than a few stares while he was on the dance floor.
