Just interested into learning more about this boxer. I know a little about his career. He was a great talent who was highly regarded in the mid 40s enough so that some had taken to calling him "Sugar Costner". I understand Sugar Ray exacted a toll on George Costner for this. How good was this fighter? Losing to a prime Sugar Ray Robinson doesn`t mean he wasn`t special in his own right. From what I`ve read he had eye problems and eventually went blind from boxing. How does he compared to a Tommy Bell? Or even a Kid Gavlian? Those guys went the distance with Ray but styles make fights and I`m curious to see how he is viewed. He had height and power and won a lot of fights coming up through the ranks. Any insights on him as a fighter or his career would be appreciated. Just another great fighter from the 1940`s that gets forgotten or overlooked.
