Wanna write about Terry McGovern's year 1900 and compare it with McFadden's 1899?

It would be an interesting one...why don't you do it, seems right up your alley?

What's the point when not a single person even said thank you for me posting several reports on one of Gans-McFadden fights. Even when I was writing about unpopular subjects (like little-known bareknuckle boxers), I was at least receiving a thank you for my efforts. Not here, they'll appreciate the silliest and completely useless messages (such as the recent topics of matchups by decade, all those "I don't know anything about this fighter's style and abilities, but I like that one's record better, so I'll pick him"), but not something that required some (sometimes a lot) efforts to put together.

If there are two things that are bound to bomb on the forum, it's posted footage and anything obscure. But what can you do? A lot of these threads do slip through the cracks, and they do sometimes need a bump. I had to post my thread on Jimmy Carroll like three times...and it never really took off.

But people do read this stuff.

Senya, I read alot of your stuff and I try to say thank you afterwards, but the thing is most people (myself included) just flat out dont know enough about that particular era/fighter/fight to comment so normally just stay schtumm.

    Your posts are very appreciated.

I know what you mean - it can be frustrating sometimes!

I bet, if you started stupid threads like "Which champ was the ugliest of all time?" or "Which boxer had the hottest wife/girlfriend?", you would get dozens of replies.

A couple of months ago I thought it would be fun to find the shortest way for Jimmy Wilde to "beat" Primo Carnera (you know: Wilde beat A, who beat B......... who beat Carnera). I was certain that at least some historians in here would find it interesting, and would try to be the one who came up with the shortest solution... but not a single person wanted to even give it a try.

Oh, well... maybe I should start a thread where I claim Marciano is the most overrated fighter of all time! It has only been done like a couple of hundred times before... but people never seem to get tired of silly stuff like that.

one thing about historical threads is that people like myself who have been on the internet for ten years or so get 'burned out' on replying to every thread. and like it's been said, if I'm not sure about things I won't respond.

seen a lot of interesting stuff on the internet, but reruns sometimes keep the good stuff under wraps.

never knew about 'elbows' and thank you for the posts.

I think that is the case with most people in some of these.

It takes time to learn about some of these fighters, and some times people just dont know much more than their records, until they (orothers like yourself) start researching and even then it is a slow process. That is why heavy is the most posted topic. It isnt because everyone likes it best, necessarilly, but because we are most familiar with it.

I think you dismiss Decade by decade threads to easily (they need your input). It tells you a lot about this forum. So many people will vote massively on the modern threads, because theyhave heard of the fighters, not because they think they are better. You can read it like a book. Everyone has heard of guys like Monzon, Hagler, Duran etc so they rarely lose a match. Old timers who are well known, like Greb, Benny Leonard etc will usually win (i am certain Benny Leonard owes much of his legacy today to sharing Ray's name, as does Barbados Joe and The Non Pareil or even both the "Sugars". This is a common theme on the forum sometimes, I am sure some rank Eddie Chambers comparable in speed to Gene Tunney because of his nickname. I dont think that would happen if his name was Strong Eddie Chambers. It gets worse, you arent skilled if you were over a certain size but born before the 70s, even though you might have beaten all but the very best. But all this is just the forum. You will notice it does change over time, Harry Greb is now considered on par or better than Hagler, Robinson etc at middleweight and on par or even better pound for pound with the top 3. That wouldnt have been close to the case 1 year ago.

Carney and Elbows McFadden would have been nobodies to everybody 2 years ago. A bunch of NDs and just your average run of the mill fighters or journeyman. I think you changed this for many posters, and in turn their positivity will grow these legends on this forum as time progresses. You have totally underestimated the effect your posts and work have on this forum, despite the small number of responses.

Sorry to take this thread off topic, I think we should try to stay its course.

    Nice work Scribbs.

The account Senya posted really touts McFadden's defensive ability.

No Probs, Flea Man. Yeah Senya is a top dude, always questions the myths.

Just a question off topic, I did a thread on unsung fighters to look into & you said Venice Bus Station but if you could give a serious answer who would it be?
