You might’ve seen this before but if not you’d definitely be interested. I’ve linked it before in an older thread that has long since been pushed down the order of pages. A 1935 article by Jim Jeffries (with an assistant writer) detailing his career - 10 fights to the top - from his perspective. Enjoy. PS - If reading on an iPhone just use your finger/thumb to flip the pages. https://scvhistory.com/scvhistory/lw3586.htm
Great article @Pugguy, interesting to hear it from Jeffries himself. I wonder if there’s one by Sullivan
That was done many years after Jeff’s career had finished. As we know, sadly, John L died relatively young at just 59 yo in 1918. You should sink your teeth into these available Police Gazette’s (see below) - and they can be downloaded to your PC in their original form. If you’re looking for a write up on a specific fight - just know the date of the fight and look for a Gazette that’s dated about 1 week later (of course the time delay can vary) and you’ll likely find a full fight description. It’s not all the Police Gazettes that there ever was -but there’s a good chunk there. I’ve probably only read 3-4 so far due to personal time constraints. But seriously, it’s like WOW to have such resources at your fingertips and for keeps if you want. You can also OGLE the hot women of the day (lol) since the gazette reserved a few pages for the contemporary femme fatales - some even showing a hint of ankle there - like a gay nineties version of the Mirror’s page 3 girls. Whatever you do, just don’t let your Mrs see you checking them out. Even when it comes to women who are built like brick out houses and who have long since passed - they are still no bars to giving rise to other female’s jealousies. My personal favourite is the Nineties “Naughty Nellie” - she would’ve absolutely crushed you with those thighs of hers. https://archive.org/search?query=police+gazette
