People often forget how good Ray Mercer was in the late 80's and early 90's. I think he wins a wide UD no question.

    This. :good

People also exaggerate how well old Foreman did against peak Evander, it was a valiant losing effort indeed, but I gave Holy 11 rounds.

I will take Foreman, Ray fought lazy sometimes, this 91 version of Mecer in my opinion is not as good as the Mecer that fought in 95-96, yes he was in his physical prime but he was not as smart a fighter as he was later.. The 91 version of Mercer didn't use his jab and mostly stalked seeking only a KO while walking strait in leaving himself open.. He didn't pay much attention to points. So in my eyes he might be made to order for Foreman.. Foreman lands the jab all night long as well as most anything else he wants, I don't see him stopping Mecer but I will give Foreman a points win..

Yeah, Mercer would be stupid and stand right in front of George in 91. I could see George winning this fight on points, but taking a bad beating in the process.

mercer by desicion. foreman would probably fight stupi and I think he can take foreman's shots. mercer would use that jab and right hand to bust up foreman and maybe even win by late stoppage.

    He wasn't that good.

I agree with lefthook31, it would be a tough fight with Foreman winning the decision. It took Mercer until the Holyfield and Lewis fights to understand that you actually have to throw punches in order to win decisions. Foreman is not going to get knocked out and despite his age he had solid workrate.

    spot on. :thumbsup

BUT - Even teh best version of Mercer who was a thick-set 238lbs vs Lewis in 1996 would lose a decision to George. And if anyone has teh punch-power to KO Mercer - it would be my man Foreman.

Mercer finds a way to lose, probably lets Foreman actually outbox him of all people. Considering his tendancy to walk into punches he might even get knocked out as there is no such as a great chin against Big George.

Foreman is the most powerful puncher of all time - look how he destroyed Frazier.
IMO Foreman old or young could one-punch-KO anyone if he landed a full-power Haymaker on their chin.

A brawl all night with Big George and Mercer standing head on , Foremans takes a UD and both spend a month in hospital.

You say that Ol' Foreman could KO Mercer with one punch? He couldn't KO Tommy Morrison, how in the hell is he gonna KO Mercer?

1990s Foreman is vastly overrated. Did anyone care to see the Foreman-Morrison fight? Where Morrison easily won a shutout decision? In case it slipped your mind, Mercer pounded the **** out of that same Tommy Morrison in 5 rounds. What makes you think Foreman can beat a durable powerful fighter like Mercer if he couldn't come close to beating Tommy Morrison? 1990's foreman wasn't exactly hard to outpoint.

I think later on in Mercers career he might have actually boxed a more smart fight, but the dummy of 91 would stand right in front of George. No doubt Mercer had the youth and skills to easily outbox George, but with his iron chin and the way he fought earlier in his career, I just see him losing the fight more from his stupidity. I always thought Mercer was a stupid fighter in the ring and made a lot of poor technical mistakes which is pretty common with fighters with poor defense and a great chin.
