Foreman was being nice when he said that, he would have destroyed Quarry in a couple of rounds... not on cuts either, KTFO!

Quarry is so overrated on this forum it's not even funny anymore. Take away the KO over Shavers and what do you have? A close win and draw vs. a past prime Patterson. A decision win over a pre-peaked Lyle. A close loss to Ellis. What else? Foster and Spencer? Who cares? He was destroyed by Frazier x2, Ali x2, and Norton. He was dropped and hurt by Chuvalo although the fight should have continued. He clearly lost to a past prime Eddie Machen but he did improve after the loss (like Lyle improved after losing to Quarry). I think Young would have beat him. Bugner would have had a good chance vs. Quarry, Bonavena too. Lyle may have been able to avenge his loss to Quarry had he gotten the chance. Foreman would have given Quarry the worst beating of his life.

Lyle had a string of quick KO wins going into the fight with Quarry. He would get better after Quarry. I think Lyle could have beat Quarry in a rematch to be honest... he sure did much better vs. Ali than Quarry ever did.

Jerry Quarry is comically overrated on most boxing forums I have viewed. I don't care if Foreman ducked him or not, he probably would have stopped him within 4 or 5 rounds.

As someone pointed out, manager **** Saddler was a very cautious guy. He knew that although a long shot, on given night where Jerry was on and George was not, Quarry had a chance to win, granted a remote one, but a chance. Saddler figured "why take that chance?" when he could make money fighting guys like Kirkman and Peralta and Pires. Why do you Bonavena never got a Foreman fight? Same reason Jerry did not.

Quarry fell short vs the greatest of his era and he would have fallen short vs Foreman. Most anyone else would have also. Jerry was an EXCELLENT technical fighter. He could box and he could punch especially with his hook. Don't sell him short.

I don't think so. Would've been a nice show for sure but Foreman would eventually get rid of a brave Quarry.

    Foreman would have brutalized Quarry.

    vastly overrated

alot of guts but no speed, little movement, and he cant get out of the way

what little he lands, wont cause George to do more than blink

Haven't read all the posts but no way Jerry wins, even a top tier Jerry.
He had one style (or two): Come to fight and come to counterpunch.
Outside of that geek Bodell, Jerry had trouble with taller boxers who didn't have near the Foreman "pop". Plus, IMO, George could have cut Jerry early with his jab even before bringing out the bombs.
I read the articles in early 73 concerning this thread. All hype.
Foreman simply too big, too strong and at some point, IMO, he would have landed a monster shot that would have Jerry reeling or cut. Quarry was never hard to find which suits him against semi-big punchers but we're talking Foreman here. George's jab would have kept Quarry on the outside as well.
    No, no Jerry win here...

Pa-lease boxfan. Jerry beat a sorta green Lyle and Ron knocked Foreman down in his "post-Ali" brain dead mode. Lyle wasn't going to KO Foreman despite that. I thought Lyle was near death when it was over. Jerry has no chance.

"No speed, little movement", apparently you have only seen fights that Quarry had late in his career.

No your right. Quarry had speed and movement, but we're talking big George Foreman of the 70s here. He was a dangerous puncher who knew how to cut the ring. He pinned ali on the ropes. Not sure if quarry would've made it without getting knocked out.
