To avoid any comparison to the tall SHW's let's keep a weight limit of 230 pounds.

Mid 70s Foreman is the best fighter ever under 230 in a H2H sense. He ran through Frazier and Norton like they were 14 year olds.

He'd have chopped down Joe Louis. He'd have plastered Holyfield. He'd have dispatched Tysons pressure style quite easily.

The only man who presented a major problem would be Ali. But Ali is beatable H2H by men under 230. Norton gave him hell. Frazier whooped his ass. Tysons pressure style would have been an issue for the relatively lighter hitting Ali.

Who do you favor over mid 70s Foreman besides Ali? Let's call a spade a spade. Foreman destroyed Alis biggest challenges with ease.

    Joe Louis
    Jack Dempsey
    Evander Holyfield
    Holmes
    Lennox Lewis
    Jack Johnson
    Jeffries

The reason that Foreman had such success with Norton and Frazier was because of styles. Frazier leaned forward and was susceptible to the uppercut which was Foreman's best punch. Norton had a style that terrorized boxers but was suicide against big punchers like Foreman. They were made to order.

Holyfield couldn't put away a 45 year old Foreman. Mid 70s Foreman chops him down.

Lewis and Holmes were over 230. This thread is about H2H ability at under 230 pounds.

And if even if Foreman have have some style trouble against Lewis, Jack Johnson, Jeffries, etc. He'd still impose his power and strength over them for the KO.

Ali is made to order for Tyson.

He doesn't have to put him away. He just has to win the fight. Older Foreman and Younger Foreman were only different in speed and pacing pretty much. Holyfield would stop young Foreman who gassed out by the 5th rd. Over 15, Holyfield stops him. Foreman wouldn't beat any great heavyweight by decision. If he doesn't stop them early he is a goner.

My bad I didn't mean to add Lewis. Holmes was under 230 in his prime so I still stand by that statement.

Johnson would outmaneuver Foreman and outlast him. Stops him late. Same with Jeffries. Jeffries had a great chin, great stamina, and kept his power late. He would stop Foreman when Foreman gasses.

Why do you keep bringing up Ali vs Tyson?

Not to say it's a given, but I could envision Foreman knocking Holyfield down a couple times in the early rounds and have a big enough lead after 5 or 6 rounds to put Evander in a deep whole and take a decision.

There are plenty under 230 that would beat mid 70s Foreman.

    Sonny Liston
    Mike Tyson
    Larry Holmes
    Evander Holyfield
    Jimmy Young
    Tim Witherspoon

I couldn't. Holyfield had a fantastic chin and fought tons of punchers. Tyson, Lewis, Bowe, Rahman, etc. None of them could stop him except for Bowe and there are reasons behind that. I seriously doubt that he would go from almost never getting knocked down to going down a couple of times against Foreman.

I'd also say Liston and Holmes have a very good chance of beating Foreman.

I think Foreman's a disastrous pick personally. Too much vulnerability to the ATG movers, not particular proven against the ATG punchers.

But it's arguing for nothing really, nobody knows.

I think that he was very beatable stylistically.

The best technical boxers would always have a chance against him, as would the counter punching power hitters.
