He was doped... rope a doped. He lost because Ali was smarter, tougher, better, and kept punching him in the face.

yes, it is why ali never ever gave him a rematch, liston, patterson, frazier, norton, all the best guys that he fought had his rematches except foreman, and it was because.
" after of the first round with foreman, ali had an expression in his face that i will never forget,he was facing a guy stronger than him, who hits harder than him, younger than him and ali could not dominate him, this one was the first time that i saw fear in the ali eyes"

    when we were kings

Ali showed no fear at any time after round 1. Disdain more like it and as his corner put in his mouthpiece for round 2 he led the crowds cheers.

Such ****. How did you exist being the way you are?

You show a five second clip and expect people to think Ali was frightened? 15 seconds later he leads the crowd in cheers. Seven rounds later Foreman is counted out for a ten count.

Foreman wanted no part of Ali after that fight. Get real. He got as owned as it gets and the next time he fought anyone remotely like Ali he got dropped and outboxed again. He was such a mentally weak unstable basket case after those two fights that he retired for decade in his "prime". Foreman would gave NEVER beaten. EVER

Who can say for sure ?

Let's be honest, that fight couldn't even be made these days without a million scandals unfolding and investigations and rumours. A historical major fight serving some tinpot dictator with a horrendous human rights record, "supervised" by "the Zaire boxing commission". Promoted and broadcast by a consortium of chancers, a film production company and satellite broadcast pioneers, including a company set up in Panama, a hustler just 3 years out of jail.
Those were different times and that was a unique event.

Let's not pretend that we know everything was above board, when clearly the standards of 1974 were way off what would be considered legit in other eras.

I'd take Foreman's claims with a pinch of salt. But maybe his water DID taste funny, maybe he did feel sluggish, and maybe his trainer **** Sadler was a shady crooked character. If all of that was true, if Foreman was doped, I still don't think that would be especially remarkable in the context of other things that happened surrounding that fight.
FFS, they had 'undesirables' rounded up and held underneath the stadium that night, 100 had been executed beforehand, so yeah bad things happened.

True, water often tastes funny when you go to another country.
But then he'd been there for about 2 months, so I guess he means it tasted stranger still.

The thing is, although he looked sluggish in the fight, he was throwing a lot of really hard punches that Ali blocked or absorbed, and really Ali had to be very tough to take those punches.

So IF Foreman was doped, they doped him just enough to lose to Ali because I think 95% of good heavyweights would have lost to that "doped Foreman" anyway.
    It's possible I suppose.

Actually Foreman's not making excuses in the article, he seems to be saying Ali would have beaten him anyway because he simply wasn't good enough to beat Ali.
But it also seems to be his genuine belief that his water was spiked.
It doesn't seem to be an outrageous belief at all.
    These things happen.

Didn't he also say that manager **** Saddler told him he had to pay the ref ten grand in cash and he has no idea where that money went?

This is pathetic ! :fire I've always thought this. Particularly as there have been times when George actually ADMITTED that he was scratching around for excuses then contradicts himself later on.

He definitely wasn't fearful, but he was very alert and discontent for the lack of a better description. You had the impression that the bravest man in the word was trying to slay a beast.

The one time you can truly see fear on Ali is when was dodging Listons attacks in round 1 of their first fight.
