    Don't change

I don't doubt Max could have been a fair bit better if his heart was truly in boxing. Not bad i guess to be champ and having not been overly passionate for the sport.

    I agree.

Max looks so raw at times it hurts but the physical attributes were top shelf - at 6’2 1/2”, 82” reach, overall large frame, impossibly broad shoulders, great chin and natural power.

I’m sure Max could’ve been that much more refined and effective with due discipline, guidance and training.

His size alone would’ve stood him in great stead even multiple decades after his own era.

But yeah, particularly relative to his not being so much into boxing, his achievements were very noteworthy.

Joe Bugner was a bit similar in some ways - great physical tools but no love for the sport but still able to hang with the best of the division - apparently Joe’s first and real passion was weight lifting - the legacy of which could be clearly seen in his physique which perhaps lent itself to arm fatigue before time.

Watching Bugner fight you found yourself wondering why he wouldn’t punch more given how effective he could be when he let the hands go - perhaps it was due in part to his being too muscle bound?
