George cracks me up, he'll say every boxer under the sun beats him nowadays. He retweeted somebody saying Shavers would have cold KO'ed him. His fans gather round and tell him how wrong George is and how he'd kill Shavers. It's brilliant reverse psychology he's pulling and I don't believe it for a second.

Yep. It's a miracle George ever stepped in the ring at all given how scared sh*tless he was of everyone!

But I do agree Shavers probably would've won a championship in today's era.

He is always quick to mention how scared he was of Joe Fraser. He claimed that he hoped BRUGER would not look down to see his leg shaking and discusses how he always reminded him of the scariest guy in the neighborhood. GEORGE seem to do ok being terrified!

The mind is a funny thing. George actually was a little timid around Frazier before getting a shot at him, but according to Foreman Archie Moore trained him on how to behave whenever Frazier was in his presence going into the fight.

Moore told Foreman to let Frazier start talking and then to firmly to tell him to SHUTUP and if Frazier said anything else to shove him away. Foreman used the same strategy in their fights, since whenever Frazier got close Foreman shoved him away and clobbered him. Foreman was also able to stare down opponents much like Louis in his prime was often able to do (didn’t work with Schmeling).

Also, my former boxing/kickboxing coach was a sparring partner for Jerry Quarry, Earnie Shavers, and Ron Lyle during the 70’s and said Quarry was the toughest to deal with, since he was clever and fast while despite Lyle and Shavers having much greater punching power that they were easy to predict, so I don’t doubt that Foreman avoided a fight with Quarry.

That loss to Ali changed him forever
