This one has probably been done before

How would this matchup say in 1975 or 1976 have unfolded if Foreman fought Shavers instead of Lyle?

I think it would be much like Foreman/Lyle, with Foreman stopping Ernie in a war probably around the sixth round.

In a series of 10 fights George wins 8 or 9 but if he gets sloppy - as he did v Lyle - then Earnie has more than a puncher's chance. I doubt George wins all ten. Either scenario - a Foreman win or a Shavers win - ends before the end of the sixth most times out of ten. I can't think of a hypothetical sporting contest I'd look forward to more. Possibly prime Foreman vs Naseem Hamed. In a phone booth.

I love Earnie, but I don't see this as much of a contest. I think George could blow him out in a couple of rounds. Lyle was bigger, more durable, and I think was a tougher match for George.

In these type of fights the better chin usually prevails. In this case, it's Foreman. Foreman by KO within five rounds.

Earnie lacked durability. That's suicide vs Foreman. I think Earnie makes it interesting very early but then gets caught and stopped. Foreman ko 2.

Foreman KO 2. 40-0 Foreman was too focused. Foreman might get rocked, even dropped, but Shavers let more people off the hook than Foreman. Shavers gets overwhelmed and KOed.

...b-b-but Shavers hit harder than Foreman! Lyle knocked down Foreman! Jimmy Young Knocked him down, Ali knocked him out, so Shavers can!

There is no good reason to favour Shavers, but that is not the same thing as saying that you rule his chances out.
