George Foreman v Larry Holmes 1999

Foreman did not need Holmes to make money, Larry needed Foreman....George was all about the cash....no pay, no play

 

They were both always about the money, except for this one instance with Larry. He wanted George in the worst way, and was willing to take a pay cut for once.

 

true and that was because George had other options and he was the MAN at that time....He did not like Larry's attitude and green eyes towards him...I would have loved to see it at that stage

 

I think they just don't like eachother, and much of this is due to Larry's constant griping at him for a fight. They seemed to get along fine during the Champions Forever thing, but they might have just been trying to behave.

 

The Astrodome in Houston was NOT a good site for the proposed "Holmes-Foreman" fight of 1999....... Inspite of Foreman being from Texas, ballpark's are not good venue's in the modern world of boxing.....

Also, Foreman had some jackass' / rednecks' trying to promote and stage this match and that too was a mistake..... The whole event was doomed from the start....... This should've been handled more professionally......

And, once again, Foreman priced himself too high..... Foreman wanted 10 million flat out with no pay cuts......... Holmes was willing to go ahead with 4 million off the bat......

SO! What we got was a Foreman full retirement and Holmes bashing a slobbish Bonecrusher Smith for the second time.........

Holmes would win easy and George knew it thats why he never took the fight.

 

Holmes is going to get hit and hurt. If he stays away, boring fight,
Foreman wins. If he tries mixing it up, Holmes gets stopped.

 

in the 1970's I think Larry outpoints George or stops him late, but the more in years this fight is made the more it favors George. Power will last long after skills will, and Larry's skills by 1999 would not have been enough to hold back George's power. I think George would have stopped Larry in the late rounds in a pretty action packed fight.

 

Hmmmmmm.... After watching Holmes batter a slobbish Bones Smith in the summer of '99 and look good in doing so, I gotta assume Holmes batters Foreman for a 10 round decision victory.............. BUT! Had the friggin' fight gone off in Texas as planned---Who knows???? It is very iffy there..................

I've always felt that Foreman retained more of his skills and abilities into old age than did Holmes. I can't see Holmes being able to "beat" Shannon Briggs like George did, or even Savarese.......But who knows.....Maybe HOlmes still would have beat Foreman in '99, but it would have been a tough fight.

 

That has to be the sole point everybody can agree on. :yep
