In 1997 Chris Byrd called out Foreman for the fight. He wanted to be like Crawford Grimsley and get some hype for fighting the old champion. How would it go? Byrd was of course very green, but Foreman was old old.

Never thought about this one. Foreman is way too old here. Byrd is more than 20 years younger!

Byrd's slickness gets him a clear, wide UD.

I think I'll go with Byrd, too quick too slick too young. Foreman has the power, but he doesn't have Wlad's speed. Byrd wins a unanimous decision.

Lou Savarese at the time was the tougher USBA champ and held the title that Byrd had been stripped of.

Pretend its 97 and you don't know how Byrd or Savareses careers turned out. Savarese is the more interesting matchup.

Byrd by decision he's a bad style match up for old Foreman being a tricky elusive Southpaw boxer.

Foreman's single right hands won't be enough to score a come from behind KO. And Foreman wasn't exactly stopping opponents during that period either, fighters like Grimsley who is known for suffering the quickest KO loss in history went 12 rounds with Foreman.

Savarese was a big Italian and was still so mediocre that he still had no hype. Byrd hadn't done much at that point, but it doesn't exactly make Savarese a reasonable option.
