Foreman II wasn't only outboxed by Morrison but also by Axel Schulz. Byrd would win an easy UD against old George. Foreman I - Byrd would most likely end up like Ibeabuchi - Byrd.
Yeah young Foreman just runs Byrd over. Too much firepower. But Old Foreman? Forget about it. Someone tell me again: Who is the best fighter to attempt to outbox Old Foreman, yet fail?
Byrd made his career off fighting huge strong guys whom he knew he couldn't hurt: Vitali, Tua, Golota, McCline, Ibeabuchi, Wlad, Purrity... With the exception of Ike, whom Byrd stupidly fought against the ropes, a tactic which he vowed never to repeat, and the second Wlad fight, where Byrd was past his prime, none of these fighters were able to get the job done. Even the relatively fleet footed Evander was completely shut down by Byrd's tricky style and foot movement. Every time he bulled in Byrd would pivot and turn him, then continue to outbox him with his fast hands. A young aggressive pre-Steward Wlad had to be content winning a points decision against Byrd, yet the lumbering ten punches a round Foreman is going to stop him? Sorry, but you need way better examples to prove your case here. And you seem to be one of those people who thinks that Byrd couldn't fight either. Morrison did not lack in the skill or power department, but he was not a guy who could naturally box off the backfoot. He was forced to do it against Foreman, but you could see how uncomfortable he looked, and how draining it was to him to fight in a style he was unfamiliar with. Byrd's natural environment was the backfoot, preferably against bigger, slower, heavier handed guys. If you think he'd have any trouble avoiding Foreman's wild swings then you need to familiarise yourself with Byrd by watching more of his fights. He was a defensive master, and one of the trickiest heavyweights of the last thirty years.
Foreman at his destructive best wearing the smaller gloves that they had in the late 60s-early 70s may have gone through Byrd Ibeacbuchi style. However, it is just as likely that Byrd could have done an even better paint job on Big George than the one that Jimmy Young did. I might actually favour Byrd to frustrate him by making him mess and pestering him with combinations.
Byrd would clown Tommy Morrison all night, by the way. Maybe even stop him late on cuts, accumulated damage, exhaustion, etcetera.
I know Tommy Morrison and I liked many of his fights. He has an awesome left hook and he had some highlight reel KO's but his best fight was against an Old Man that he ran from. Not sure about Byrd vs Morrison but Foreman would beat Byrd.
I never said Byrd couldn't fight. Thing is, for all the guys you listed there's really a lot of hot air there. Vit got hurt, Tua was pretty much shot after the Ike fight and all the way shot after Lennox, McCline's nothing that special and he only drew with Golota, so on and so forth. Ike got rid of him like he's nothing. I think Old George is better than Golota and McCline, I think he's good enough to take Byrd out.
Which version? Young Foreman beats him pre-Ali, loses to him post-Ali mainly trying to do something that he has no business doing and running out of gas. Old Foreman has the same plan as he did for the Moorer get beat hope to crack with one great shot, which I don't think would ever come.
