I did a piece on this in the Lounge a while back...... I'm looking for a CLEAN copy of this fight........ I can't believe nobody has this thing laying around........ MR.BILL
How well would the younger Qawi have done against that mature version of George had he weighed 175? (In other words, at the same height and weight as Tommy Burns.) Would a well-conditioned Qawi have fared worse than the aged fat edition actually did do in cleverly stealing some rounds from Foreman?
Well Qawi at this point was from memory only just out of the Cruiser division that was 190/195 lbs at the time, so if he'd have entered the fight at around 205lbs he'd have had (IMO) a better chance. My memory of the bout is very hazy.
I think so much for the fact that George would walk through shorter, smaller guys....Qwawi was not really a big puncher but he got George's attention with some of his punches
If I'm not mistaken, Foreman was 235 for this fight. I think this was the lightest he weighed in his comeback. I remember seeing a list of his weights before one of his fights on HBO, against Rodriguez if I recall correctly. I've always wondered if Foreman felt more comfortable above 250 after his encounter with Qawi.
Foreman was fit for this fight but he did start to lift weights again...I think he would have had trouble with Qwawi despite his weight
Qawi put up a pretty good fight. He made George looked comical at times. As short was Qawi was, George had a hard time hitting him really cleanly at times.
