I would love to see these two throwing nuclear s at each other.
It could well be a Foreman Lyle type war, it wouldn't surprise me.

Shavers was a extremist one shotter, Foreman was a clubber.

George would probably press Earnie for 2/3 maybe even 4/5 rounds with clubbing shots before giving him a TKO.

George Foreman early by KO. Earnie Shavers was a very hard hitter but remember what Jerry Quarry did to Shavers on Dec 14 1973, KO1. Although Jerry was an overall much skilled fighter than George Foreman, a prime 1973 Foreman's power would get to Earnie very quickly. This would not be the ego deflated post Zaire Foreman that struggled with Ron Lyle in Jan 1976 but a wild swinging for the fences Foreman who looked to decapitate his opponents in every fight. In a western, George would outdraw Earnie, sending him on his back for the full ten count.

fellow naval historian? (navy veteran, 86-95) for me, uss wahington vs ijn kirishima. washington had larger cannons, 16 inch vs 14 inch. that said, kirishima took a lot of punishment from the washington before she went down.
foreman sinks shavers around 6th round!

Foreman stops him, and likely early. He would have likely stopped Lyle with more comfort if he hadn't been a mental noodle with new trainer at the time, coming out to his first serious appearence since Zaire.

Earnie being smaller and with worse chin when compared to Ron doesn't bode well. Foreman can use all his favorite frames, stops, leverage guards and handles.

Two big punchers, and the one with less skill happens to be a bit of a glass cannon. Yeah, my money is on Foreman here.
