Foreman by KO 4-6.Quarry was good against big punchers(Lyle,Shavers,M.Foster) but Foreman would be a too much for JQ.
Foreman may knock him out because of his uncommon strength and power but Quarry would connect on George. The bigger man prevails thanks in part to a tough chin.
Jerry Quarry gives him issues because of the style matchup, may be ahead on the cards by using movement and baiting Foreman for counter punching opportunities, but Quarry did weave sometimes in or out of range, I see Foreman finding his timing and connecting, although apparently Foreman admitted to having avoided Quarry on the way up because of the styles.
I agree...probably within 5 rounds as some have said. its just interesting that Foreman decided to duck him after he ko'd Earnie Shavers, through...
I have seen Quarry beat a lot of the Big slow punchers- Mac Foster, Ron Lyle, Shavers, Joe Alexander, Thad Spencer, etc. Quarry had a chin and could keep a guy honest with his power in both hands. Quarry also had good stamina. I always felt Quarry would have been a great test for Foreman and still do. I am talking about the young monster Foreman not the older wiser guy. Foreman the younger would gas after a few rounds and be open to counters and fatigue would be his enemy. Quarry dominated a prime Ron Lyle, he hurt Lyle and Lyle tried to survive after that. I had ringside seats for Shavers, Lyle, and Mac Foster fights and Joe Alexander as well. Quarry had trouble with guys that beat him to the punch like Ali and Frazier (but fought on even terms with Joe in the first fight until the end). Foreman in totality was a great fighter with tremendous power but wide swinging and could be countered. I would not be 100% certain to who would win but would place a large wager on Jerry by KO depending on the odds.
I know..and I probably might get some flak for this comment, but Wikipedia says he did. And there is a link to the page where he said so, his own website.https://web.archive.org/web/20120120153101/http://www.georgeforeman.com/puncher_nontitle.php Weird....
Foreman fought 2,3,4,5 and 6 I don't really understand people harping on him not fighting 7,8,9 and 10.
Everyone mentions how Foreman claims to have ducked Quarry forty years later, but neglects to mention how overly generous Foreman has gotten in his later years. This is the same guy who said he would've lost to FOTC Frazier. Are we gonna take his word on that as well?
The Jerry Quarry of 1967-69 could've hung with George a little bit and made things interesting but IMO would have lost in the end. The Jerry Quarry of 1973 would have been put in the hospital by George inside of 3 minutes and it's to Quarry's benefit that the fight never happened.
I've always posted that Jerry had the perfect style for victimizing George, and with Gil Clancy in his corner as trainer, believe JQ would've dethroned him. I simply can't see Foreman stopping him inside of five rounds, and after seven rounds, George's power would be expended and he'd be in terrible trouble. Stylistically, Jerry was no Joe Frazier. He'd go to the ropes and Foreman would lumber directly into his traps. JQ would be the spider here, with George repeatedly getting tangled in his webs. Size, strength, power and force were no way to beat him, as Mac Foster and Ron Lyle found out. @Bummy Davis generated an excellent post.
