Foreman. That's why Ali refused to fight him.

I apprehensively pick Ali to win this fight, he in my opinion had enough in the tank in 76 to pull it off..

The only way GF can win is on points, he isn't knocking Ali out who had a much higher ring IQ than GF, and an iron chin as well, it's really hard to imagine the lumbering Foreman outboxing Ali over 15 long rounds..

Ali also would have a huge psychological advantage as well, having already KO'D Foreman, and George seemed uncomfortable, and even a little intimidated By Ali in Africa.

George always had problems with slick boxers, Young whipped and outboxed him in 77, as did Holyfield in 91, and even a brawler former toughman Morrison in 93, who was a lot smaller I may add..

I think in 76 Ali would have stopped Foreman late, GF had worse stamina in his first career than in his second one...

From 1976 Ali was in sharp decline , not a patch on the Ali of Zaire (understandably).
Foreman SHOULD beat him ,but then factor in Foreman losing to Young in a fight that to me demonstrated he'd learned very little from Zaire and you have a tough call.
Ali also holds a huge mental advantage.
I read somewhere that around 80% of rematches made within 3 years of the original fight, are won once again by the original victor.

Good points. Yes,Ali had declined signifigantly since Zaire but he would still have had that mental edge,as you say. He would have had Foreman in a blue funk pre fight.

    In a real fight, Foreman would have beaten any version of Ali: "prime" , '74 , '73 , '72 , '71 , '70.

Its up for grabs.. Ali was diminishing fast while Foreman lost to Jimmy Young around that time and was very nearly beaten by Lyle. Neither man was functioning like they were in '73 & '74.

Consider: Ali fried young Foreman's brain in Zaire. George might well have been a white fighter. Ali (IMO) is the greatest HW of all-time. It was all-bucks and the piece of human excrement Don King's influence that took that fight to Africa with all the controversy surrounding it.
The fight should have been in the Houston Astrodome.
Ali never gave George a rematch.
Again, George was never the same after Ali.
**** on the Lyle fight, stupid George got caught but a stupid George or a prime George is NEVER going to get knocked out.
I've said this before but Ali's second reign was a smoke-screen side show (it's difficult to say because I love him so much)
Joe Louis's 'bums of the month'? Ali trumped that in spades with the **** he signed to fight...but yes, I was there watching knowing the outcome.
Norton 3? Young? In retrospect, the Thrilla in Manilla was simply two well past prime warriors going at it. Hell, IMHO, the Holmes that destroyed Rodney Bobick on the undercard might have bested BOTH Ali and Frazier that night.
